Uncovering a Universal Molecular Mechanism of Salt Ion Adsorption at Solid/Water Interfaces

Rahul Prasanna Misra et al.

Summary: This study investigates the charge polarization mechanism between salt ions and solids, and how this polarization affects ion adsorption at solid/water interfaces. The findings show that in vacuum, graphene polarization drives salt ion adsorption, but in the presence of water, ions and water molecules interfere destructively, leading to water-mediated screening.
