Pitfalls of Periodograms: The Nonstationarity Bias in the Analysis of Quasiperiodic Oscillations

Moritz Huebner et al.

Summary: Quasiperiodic oscillations (QPOs) are important for understanding the dynamic behavior of astrophysical objects during transient events. However, if time series are nonstationary, the significance of QPOs can be overestimated and estimates of their frequencies and widths can be overconstrained. Careful segment selection prior to analysis is crucial to avoid this bias.

GLADE plus : an extended galaxy catalogue for multimessenger searches with advanced gravitational-wave detectors

G. Dalya et al.

Summary: GLADE+ is an extended version of the GLADE galaxy catalogue, designed for multimessenger searches with advanced gravitational-wave detectors. It combines data from six separate astronomical catalogues and provides estimations for redshift corrections and other parameters to assist in determining the likelihood of galaxies being hosts in gravitational wave searches.

Constraints on the Maximum Densities of Neutron Stars from Postmerger Gravitational Waves with Third-Generation Observations

Matteo Breschi et al.

Summary: A new quasiuniversal relation connecting the postmerger peak gravitational-wave frequency and the density at the center of the maximum mass nonrotating neutron star has been identified using numerical relativity simulations. This relation offers the possibility for precise equation-of-state constraints in future ground-based gravitational-wave interferometers.

Rapid spectral variability of a giant flare from a magnetar in NGC 253

O. J. Roberts et al.

Summary: Observations of a giant flare associated with the starburst galaxy NGC 253 suggest a probable connection with relativistic plasma within a magnetar. Experimental findings are consistent with expected characteristics for giant flares from extragalactic magnetars.

The evolution of binary neutron star post-merger remnants: a review

Nikhil Sarin et al.

Summary: Research has been conducted on observational and theoretical knowledge of binary neutron star post-merger remnants, including the possibility of the remnant collapsing to form a black hole and the potential formation of long-lived neutron stars in other merger events. The evolution of short- and long-lived remnants, as well as prospects for detection of gravitational waves and electromagnetic observations, have been discussed.

Frequency deviations in universal relations of isolated neutron stars and postmerger remnants

Georgios Lioutas et al.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between the fundamental quadrupolar fluid mode of isolated nonrotating neutron stars and the dominant oscillation frequency of neutron star merger remnants. By analyzing frequency deviations, a potential mechanism that encodes equation of state information is revealed, along with ways to break degeneracy between different stellar parameters. The findings suggest the possibility of improving gravitational wave asteroseismology relations by utilizing systematic behavior of frequency deviations to reduce scatter and increase measurement accuracy.

Identification of a Local Sample of Gamma-Ray Bursts Consistent with a Magnetar Giant Flare Origin

E. Burns et al.

Summary: A distinct population of four local short GRBs has been identified, showing inconsistencies with the larger short GRB population and potentially originating from extragalactic magnetars. Inferred volumetric rates suggest MGFs as the dominant gamma-ray transient detected from extragalactic sources, indicating some magnetars may produce multiple MGFs, serving as a source of repeating GRBs. Rates and host galaxies support common CCSN as key progenitors of magnetars.

The Broadband Counterpart of the Short GRB 200522A at z=0.5536: A Luminous Kilonova or a Collimated Outflow with a Reverse Shock?

W. Fong et al.

Summary: We discovered the radio afterglow and near-infrared counterpart of the Swift short gamma-ray burst (GRB) GRB 200522A, which showed different luminosity compared to other similar kilonova candidates, possibly requiring alternative explanations with additional heating sources. If a stable magnetar was indeed produced in GRB 200522A, late-time radio emissions are predicted to be detectable 0.3-6 years after the burst.
