Simulations on the rheology of dry magneto-rheological fluid under various working modes

Lei Pei et al.

Summary: This study investigated the rheological properties and magnetorheological mechanism of dry magnetorheological fluid (MRF) under different working modes. A novel simulation method was developed to systematically simulate the microstructures and mechanical properties of dry MRF in the redispersion process, shear mode, and valve mode. The results showed that dry MRF exhibited superior redispersion property and response time compared to liquid-based MRFs, and the mechanical behaviors in shear mode and valve mode were dominated by different interaction forces.

Effect of MXene nanosheets attached to carbonyl iron microspheres on the performance and stability of magnetorheological fluid

Yuxi Sun et al.

Summary: A novel magnetorheological fluid (MRF) with carbonyl iron (CI)/MXene particles was prepared to improve sedimentation stability. CI/MXene particles, synthesized by attaching MXene nanosheets onto CI particles, exhibited high magnetorheological effect with magneto-induced shear stress up to 49 kPa. The addition of MXene nanosheets significantly increased the sedimentation ratio of the MRF by 29.5% compared to CI-based MRF, while maintaining high magnetorheological effect.

Shear response of magnetorheological fluid with Zn0.2Fe2.8O4 sub-micron hollow spheres

Priyanka Saha et al.

Summary: Magnetorheological (MR) fluids containing Fe3O4 particles are widely studied for their soft magnetic properties, controllable morphology, and improved chemical stability compared to metallic alternatives. The addition of Zn doping can further enhance their magnetization and reduce density, making them more active, stable, and dispersible in carrier fluids. The MR fluid exhibits a Bingham plastic nature with yielding behavior, with changes in yield stress explained by a newly developed dipolar interaction model.

Rheological performances and enhanced sedimentation stability of mesoporous Fe3O4 nanospheres in magnetorheological fluid

Guangshuo Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, hierarchically structured mesoporous Fe3O4 nanospheres were successfully synthesized and their application in magnetorheological (MR) fluid was investigated. Characterization techniques such as SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, BET, and SQUID were used to examine the morphology, microstructure, and magnetic properties of Fe3O4 nanospheres. The Fe3O4 nanospheres-based MR fluid showed enhanced sedimentation stability compared to CI particles-based MR fluid, likely attributed to the specific mesoporous structure and reduced density mismatch between components of the MR fluid.
