Counterintuitive Lanthanide Hydrolysis-Induced Assembly Mechanism

Ming-Hao Du et al.

Summary: The hydrolysis mechanism of lanthanide ions is limited by their elusive coordination configuration and undeveloped technology. By using diketonate ligands, the hydrolyzed intermediate cluster of Ln(3+) can be efficiently stabilized under electrospray ionization conditions. A mass difference fingerprint of isomorphism (MDFI) method allows for the determination of the nuclearity-number of the species without depth resolution. The study provides fundamental insights into the formation, evolution, and assembly of small lanthanide hydroxide units upon hydrolysis.

Alexandru Topor et al.

Summary: Three 1D coordination polymers with benzoate bridges were assembled with the presence of 18-crown-6-ether, where crown ether molecules played an important role in the supramolecular architecture.
