Efficient and Ultraviolet-Durable Nonfullerene Organic Solar Cells: From Interfacial Passivation and Microstructural Modification Perspectives

Weixia Lan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the use of CdSe@ZnS quantum dots modification in the PEDOT:PSS layer to achieve UV-durable organic solar cells. The modification improves the conductivity of the PEDOT:PSS layer and maintains a high built-in potential in NFA-based OSCs.

Layer-by-Layer Processed PM6:Y6-Based Stable Ternary Polymer Solar Cells with Improved Efficiency over 18% by Incorporating an Asymmetric Thieno[3,2-b]indole-Based Acceptor

Jinglong Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a new low-bandgap asymmetric small molecule acceptor TIT-2Cl based on thieno[3,2-b]indole core was introduced into PM6:Y6-based polymer solar cells (PSCs) to suppress the over-aggregation of Y6 molecules and improve the efficiency. The addition of TIT-2Cl contributed to improved light harvesting, charge separation, transport, and extraction. By using the layer-by-layer (LBL) progressive spin-coating method, the PSCs achieved a champion efficiency of 18.18%, the highest reported for PM6:Y6-based PSCs, with superior stability and compositional insensitivity.

An Efficiency of 16.46% and a T80 Lifetime of Over 4000 h for the PM6:Y6 Inverted Organic Solar Cells Enabled by Surface Acid Treatment of the Zinc Oxide Electron Transporting Layer

Yunfei Han et al.

Summary: The surface pH conditions of solution-processed ZnO films were found to be closely related to the performance and stability of NFA OSCs. Treating ZnO films with acid solutions improved device performance, while removal of surface -OH groups alleviated performance issues and improved stability. Acid solutions, particularly PET treatment, were effective in enhancing performance, leading to long-term stability of the heterojunction solar cell.

Indacenodithiophene-based N-type conjugated polymers provide highly thermally stable ternary organic photovoltaics displaying a performance of 17.5%†

Mohamed Hammad Elsayed et al.

Summary: Three indacenodithiophene-based conjugated polymers were tested as third components for PM6:Y6-based ternary organic photovoltaics, with PITIC-Ph showing enhanced charge dissociation and improved thermal stability. The inclusion of PITIC-Ph also decreased thermally driven phase segregation in the PM6:Y6 blend film, leading to outstanding thermal stability of the OPVs even under stressful conditions at 150 degrees C for extended periods of time.
