Adsorption separation of liquid-phase C5-C6 alkynes and olefins using FAU zeolite adsorbents

Ruihan Yang et al.

Summary: Isoprene is an important monomer for chemical industries, and the selective adsorption of alkyne from isoprene using zeolites shows promising separation performance. FAU zeolites exhibit high alkyne adsorption capacity and selectivity, as confirmed by CB-GCMC simulations of binary isotherms. The results highlight the potential of using zeolites for alkyne/olefin separation.

Direct imaging and mechanism study of C6 α-olefin adsorption on faujasite and Linde Type A zeolites

Ruihan Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the adsorption behavior and selective adsorption mechanism of α-olefins using a combination of experimental and simulation methods. The results provide direct evidence of preferential adsorption of C-6 α-olefins at the edges of zeolite cavities. The presence of calcium cations enhances the selectivity of zeolites for α-olefin/paraffin adsorption. This work offers a means to study the behavior of guest molecules in nanoporous materials.

Fischer-Tropsch synthesis by reduced graphene oxide nanosheets supported cobalt catalysts: Role of support and metal nanoparticle size on catalyst activity and products selectivity

Hasan Oliaei Torshizi et al.

Summary: Cobalt catalysts supported on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets were evaluated for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, with the best activity observed with a cobalt average particle size of 15 nm due to synergistic effects of cobalt reducibility and particle size. Increasing cobalt loading on rGO support led to higher carbon defects and lower cobalt reducibility, impacting product selectivity.

Performance and mechanism of the separation of C8 α-olefin from F-T synthesis products using novel Ag-DES

Hu Li et al.

Summary: A novel silver-based deep eutectic solvent (Ag-DES) was prepared and utilized for the separation of 1-octene/n-octane, showing optimal separation performance and high selectivity along with excellent circulation stability. Experimental and analytical results provided important insights into the chemical and physical interaction mechanisms between Ag-DES and 1-octene, offering potential for energy-efficient separation processes in the purification of long chain alpha-olefins.

Molecular-level fabrication of highly selective composite ZIF-8-CNT-PDMS membranes for effective CO2/N2, CO2/H2 and olefin/paraffin separations

Saeed Ashtiani et al.

Summary: The unique CNT-ZIF-8-PDMS composite membranes with aligned ZIF-8 arrays on CNT surface act as an effective buffering layer for enhanced gas transport, showing outstanding gas separation performance with high permeabilities for CO2 and C3H6. The addition of thin PDMS layer improves mechanical and thermal stability of the composite, leading to a significant increase in elongation and a reduction in mass. The composite membranes exhibit great potential for targeted gas separation applications, surpassing the 2008 Robeson upper bounds for selectivities of various gas pairs.

Elucidating the mechanisms of Paraffin-Olefin separations using nanoporous adsorbents: An overview

Dipendu Saha et al.

Summary: This review discusses different mechanisms for separating olefins by adsorption, including affinity-based separation, separation based on pore size and shape, and non-equilibrium separation. Adsorption as a novel, sustainable, and inexpensive separation strategy requires the design of suitable adsorbents.
