Eye Involvement in Wilson's Disease: A Review of the Literature

Kevin Chevalier et al.

Summary: Wilson's disease is a genetic disorder caused by a mutation in the ATP7B gene, resulting in abnormal copper excretion and accumulation in various tissues. Ocular findings play a significant role in the diagnosis and follow-up of the disease. The most common ocular manifestations include Kayser-Fleischer ring and sunflower cataracts. Slit-lamp examination is commonly used for diagnosis and follow-up, but new techniques such as anterior segment optical coherence tomography and Scheimpflug imaging are also available.

Late onset Wilson Disease with normal neuro-psychiatric status: A case report

Bishal Dhakal et al.

Summary: Late onset Wilson disease is a rare form of WD with variable clinical presentations, including neurological manifestations. The case discussed presented with liver disease symptoms but had normal neuro-psychiatric status, which is uncommon in late onset WD.Diagnostic delays are a concern in cases of late onset WD with chronic liver disease, highlighting the importance of considering WD as a potential etiology in unexplained liver diseases.

Efficacy and Safety of Two Salts of Trientine in the Treatment of Wilson's Disease

France Woimant et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of two trientine salts (TETA 2HCL and TETA 4HCL) in the treatment of Wilson's disease (WD) patients. The results showed that both salts were effective in treating WD patients, but TETA 2HCL discontinuation was frequent, mainly due to the requirement for cold storage.

Functional motor disorders associated with other neurological diseases: Beyond the boundaries of organic neurology

Michele Tinazzi et al.

Summary: This study found that comorbid functional motor disorders with other neurological diseases are common, usually appearing after the diagnosis of another neurological disease. Patients with comorbid FMDs are typically older and have tremor, non-neurological comorbidities, etc. The importance of early diagnosis of FMDs is highlighted due to the frequent association with other neurological and non-neurological diseases.

Adherence to treatment, a challenge even in treatable metabolic rare diseases: A cross sectional study of Wilson's disease

Elodie Jacquelet et al.

Summary: In patients with Wilson's disease, adherence is correlated with factors such as age at diagnosis, age at inclusion in the study, form of the disease, duration of treatment, etc. Patients with low adherence have higher levels of exchangeable copper and a lower average age. Patients with a neurological form of the disease are more likely to have high adherence, while asymptomatic patients are more likely to have low adherence.
