Multiscale magnetic fields in the central molecular zone: inference from the gradient technique

Yue Hu et al.

Summary: The magnetic field and turbulence play a crucial role in the galactic center, particularly in the central molecular zone. The magnetic fields associated with ionized gas and radio arcs are in agreement with polarization measurements.

Magnetic Field Strength from Turbulence Theory. I. Using Differential Measure Approach

A. Lazarian et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new technique to obtain magnetic field strength from observations, which addresses the issue of anisotropy in MHD turbulence. By using the structure functions instead of the dispersion of polarization angle and line-of-sight velocities, the method provides general expressions for different media and successfully tests the results using synthetic observations.

Resolving the Formation of Cold H i Filaments in the High-velocity Cloud Complex C

Antoine Marchal et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermal and dynamical state of neutral gas in high-velocity clouds, revealing differences in thermal and turbulent properties between different phases and identifying two distinct regions within complex C showing a transition from warm diffuse gas to cold dense gas and filaments. The statistical properties of turbulence in the fluid of an HVC are characterized for the first time, with the transition from subsonic to transonic turbulence associated with thermal condensation and varying on different scales. Hydrodynamic instabilities are implicated in creating the structured concentration CIB and the phase transition within it, although further investigation is needed to clarify the details of the dynamical and thermal processes.

A synergy of the velocity gradients technique and the probability density functions for identifying gravitational collapse in self-absorbing media

Yue Hu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of self-absorption on VGT and intensity PDFs using synthetic emission lines of CO isotopologues. It confirms that VGT performance is insensitive to radiative transfer effects and shows a change in intensity PDFs' shape due to self-absorption. The results indicate the potential for constructing 3D magnetic fields tomography through VGT and highlight the impact of self-absorption on the reliability of intensity PDFs in identifying gravitational collapsing regions.

Intermittency of Fast MHD Modes and Regions of Anomalous Gradient Orientation in Low-β Plasmas

Ka Wai Ho et al.

Summary: In magnetic field tracing, fast modes can interfere with VGT, but using the gradient technique of measuring gradient amplitudes can improve the magnetic field tracing. In magnetically dominated media, fast modes are intermittent and can dominate other turbulent motions at times.
