The Galactic Faraday rotation sky 2020

S. Hutschenreuter et al.

Summary: This work updates the reconstruction of the Galactic Faraday rotation sky using the latest Faraday rotation data sets. The results show a thinner and more pronounced Galactic disc with small-scale structures exceeding several thousand rad m(-2). The improved resolution and handling of noisy and incomplete data contribute to these findings.

TRAPUM discovery of 13 new pulsars in NGC 1851 using MeerKAT

A. Ridolfi et al.

Summary: Thirteen new pulsars have been discovered in the globular cluster NGC 1851 by the TRAPUM Large Survey Project using the MeerKAT radio telescope. These discoveries include six isolated millisecond pulsars (MSPs) and seven binary pulsars, providing valuable insights into the structure and dynamics of the cluster.

Magnetic fields in the Milky Way from pulsar observations: effect of the correlation between thermal electrons and magnetic fields

Amit Seta et al.

Summary: Pulsars serve as a valuable tool for probing the Milky Way magnetic field, but caution is needed when considering the correlation between thermal electron density and magnetic fields. Numerical simulations and observations show that this correlation can vary under different Mach number conditions.

Magnetic Field Amplification by the Weibel Instability at Planetary and Astrophysical Shocks with High Mach Number

Artem Bohdan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the amplification of magnetic field within nonrelativistic perpendicular shocks through large-scale particle-in-cell simulations. It is found that the magnetic field is amplified at the shock transition due to ion-ion two-stream Weibel instability and strongly correlates with the Alfvenic Mach number. Measurements derived from particle-in-cell simulations are consistent with those taken at Saturn's bow shock by the Cassini spacecraft.

Eight new millisecond pulsars from the first MeerKAT globular cluster census

A. Ridolfi et al.

Summary: Using the central 44 antennas of the MeerKAT radio telescope array, a deep search for new pulsars in the core of nine globular clusters led to the discovery of eight new millisecond pulsars, including two compact orbit "spider" binaries and three wider orbit binary pulsars. This study demonstrates the capabilities of the MeerKAT array and paves the way for future GC pulsar surveys.

Accurate distances to Galactic globular clusters through a combination of Gaia EDR3, HST, and literature data

H. Baumgardt et al.

Summary: Accurate distances to Galactic globular clusters are derived by combining data from Gaia EDR3, HST, and literature. Different methods show good agreement in average distances at a level of about 2%, with distances to 162 clusters determined and about 20 with an accuracy of 1% or better. The implications of these distances for the local Hubble constant are discussed.

The thousand-pulsar-array programme on MeerKAT IV: Polarization properties of young, energetic pulsars

M. Serylak et al.

Summary: This study observed 35 high spin-down energy radio pulsars and analyzed their polarization profiles and geometry using the MeerKAT telescope. The research suggests that some of these pulsars may also emit gamma-rays, but further improvements in radio timing are necessary for high-energy detection. Additionally, the study discusses the relationship between radio profile width, high-energy detectability, spin-down energy, radio polarization fraction, and the potential implications for gamma-ray emission.
