Understanding Accretion Variability through TESS Observations of Taurus

Connor E. Robinson et al.

Summary: Interpreting the short-timescale variability of Classical T Tauri stars remains an open task. The continuous light curves from TESS have provided valuable data for studying the accretion process. In this study, we obtained short-cadence TESS observations for 14 T Tauri stars in the Taurus star formation region and combined them with ground-based photometry and Hubble Space Telescope spectra. Our analysis suggests that the observed short-timescale variability is mainly attributed to changes in the accretion rate, with potential evidence of longitudinal density stratification of the accretion column. The results highlight the importance of contemporaneous, multiwavelength observations for understanding the variability of these stars.

Summary: A joint X-ray and ultraviolet time-domain study was conducted on three nearby bright late-type stars, revealing differences in mass, luminosity, and age among them. Procyon showed remarkably constant flux at all wavelengths, in contrast to the other three stars.

Summary: Our study reveals that a single decay law is inadequate to explain stellar activity evolution, emphasizing the necessity for a more comprehensive description based on rotational evolution that also takes short-term variability into account. Planets orbiting higher mass stars at similar orbital distances receive significantly more X-ray and EUV energy throughout their lifetimes.
