Dynamics around non-spherical symmetric bodies - I. The case of a spherical body with mass anomaly

G. Madeira et al.

Summary: This study examines the dynamics of celestial bodies with mass anomalies using a pendulum model and the Poincard surface of section technique. The results reveal the existence of chaotic inner regions and stable outer regions around such objects. Structures similar to the classical restrict and planar three-body problems have been identified in the analysis.

The fate of particles in the dynamical environment around Kuiper-Belt object (486958) Arrokoth

A. Amarante et al.

Summary: This study uses numerical simulations to explore the fate of particles around Arrokoth and finds that most particles fall near the equatorial region of the Maryland impact crater or close to the Bright spots area on the large lobe. Additionally, particles in a spherical cloud orbiting Arrokoth accumulate near low-midlatitude regions close to the longitudes of the Maryland crater and the Bright spots area. High latitudes have fewer impacts, and particles larger than a couple of micrometers are not significantly affected by solar radiation pressure in this environment.

The Geophysical Environment of (486958) Arrokoth-A Small Kuiper Belt Object Explored by New Horizons

James T. Keane et al.

Summary: NASA's New Horizons mission flew by a small Kuiper Belt Object (KBO), (486958) Arrokoth, revealing its interesting geological features and geophysical environment. Arrokoth's surface features have a complex relationship with its geophysical environment, with bright material concentrated in low gravity areas. By inferring density, it was found that Arrokoth has a low bulk density, which is crucial for understanding the formation of planetesimals in the early Solar System.

Dynamical environments of MU69 and similar objects

Guillaume Rollin et al.

Summary: The study examines the long-term dynamics of particles around KBO 2014 MU69 (Arrokoth) and similar contact-binary objects in the Kuiper belt. It investigates the chaotic diffusion of particles inside the Hill sphere of MU69 through stability diagrams and analytical approaches based on the Kepler map theory. The formation and evolution of particle clouds due to chaotic diffusion within the Hill sphere are studied, with estimation of cloud lifetimes.
