Galaxy-scale Test of General Relativity with Strong Gravitational Lensing

Xiao-Hui Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, we test general relativity at the galactic scale using a newly compiled galaxy-scale strong gravitational lensing sample. We find that the choice of lens models significantly affects the constraints on the PPN parameter gamma(PPN). The most reliable lens model yields a result that is in good agreement with the prediction of general relativity. Our 6.4% constraint result is the best result so far among recent works using the SGL method.

Comparing lensing and stellar orbital models of a nearby massive strong-lens galaxy

Adriano Poci et al.

Summary: In this study, we compare the mass estimates derived from independent modelling techniques based on the relative proximity of the nearby strong-lens galaxy SNL-1. Our results show that SNL-1 has a constant intermediate triaxiality at all radii, and occupies the most-compact edge on the mass-size plane. We also investigate how the observed lensing configuration is affected by the orientation of the lens galaxy.

Automated galaxy-galaxy strong lens modelling: No lens left behind

Amy Etherington et al.

Summary: The authors develop an automatic Bayesian method to fit lens models for 59 galaxy lenses imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope. They focus on adjusting the pipeline to achieve accurate fits for all lenses and establish the most challenging steps in the process. The method shows a high-success rate and provides a new approach to error estimation.

In the realm of the Hubble tension-a review of solutions *

Eleonora Di Valentino et al.

Summary: There are significant discrepancies in predictions of the Hubble constant, leading to various proposed solutions including new physics theories or modifications to existing cosmological models. Some solutions successfully reduce tension and improve agreement with data, while many others fail to do so, highlighting the need for further research and evidence.

Post-Newtonian γ-like parameters and the gravitational slip in scalar-tensor and f (R) theories

Junior D. Toniato et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the differences between the PPN gamma parameter and the gravitational slip, emphasizing the usefulness of a gamma-like parameter introduced by Berry and Gair. It discusses the application of these concepts to well-known cases like massive Brans-Dicke gravity and f(R) gravity, highlighting potential conflicting results. The study reveals that Palatini f(R) theories always have gamma = 1, while metric f(R) theories can only have values of either 1 or 1/2. Additionally, it explores the implications of the findings for gamma inferences at external galaxies.

Summary: This study recalibrated the extragalactic distance ladder and refined the determination of the Hubble constant using Hubble Space Telescope and Gaia EDR3 data. The results, based on Milky Way Cepheids observations and estimates, are in good agreement with conclusions based on earlier Gaia data releases.
