Metabolic Features of Saliva in Breast Cancer Patients

Lyudmila V. Bel'skaya et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the metabolic characteristics of saliva in breast cancer and evaluate the information content of its individual biochemical indicators. The results showed significant changes in several biochemical indicators in the saliva of breast cancer patients, which can be used for early diagnosis. The metabolic characteristics of saliva were different between ductal and lobular breast cancer.

Association between Fecal Short-Chain Fatty Acid Levels, Diet, and Body Mass Index in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Agnieszka Dabek-Drobny et al.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic disorder of the gastrointestinal tract associated with gut inflammation and disturbances in bacterial metabolites production. A study found an association between body mass index (BMI) and SCFA levels in IBD patients, with differences in SCFA levels between underweight and overweight individuals, but unclear relationship between diet habits and SCFA levels.

Dental plaque microbiota profiles of children with caries-free and caries-active dentition

Muawia A. Qudeimat et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the bacterial community composition in caries-active and caries-free children using next generation sequencing techniques. While diversity indices did not find differences between the groups, comparative analysis at the species level revealed specific bacteria that were significantly more abundant in caries-active children. The predominance of certain species in caries-free children warrants further research into their potential role in a health-associated microbial community.
