Facile construction of fluorescent traceable prodrug nanosponges for tumor intracellular pH/hypoxia dual-triggered drug delivery

Wei Chen et al.

Summary: This study successfully prepared fluorescent traceable prodrug nanosponges that exhibited excellent anti-tumor efficacy. The drug release from these nanosponges was triggered by both pH and hypoxia, resulting in enhanced selective inhibition of tumor cell proliferation compared to free drugs. Moreover, the small species containing fluorescent carbon quantum dots allowed real-time in-site imaging during drug release.

Delivery of curcumin by fucoidan-coated mesoporous silica nanoparticles: Fabrication, characterization, and in vitro release performance

Xu Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, complex nanoparticles containing disulfide bonds (SS) were designed and prepared as curcumin (Cur) carriers. When the mass ratio of MSN to FUC was 2:1, the nanospheres particle size was the smallest. MSN-Cur-SS-FUC encapsulated curcumin with an encapsulation rate over 90% and showed a cumulative release rate over 80% in 24 hours.

PDA-Based Drug Delivery Nanosystems: A Potential Approach for Glioma Treatment

Hao Wu et al.

Summary: Nanotechnology, particularly polydopamine-based nanoparticles, shows promise as an alternative treatment option for glioma. These nanoparticles possess biodegradability, high drug loading rate, low toxicity, biocompatibility, targeted delivery, and strong photothermal conversion properties. Their functional modification capabilities further enhance the therapeutic effects. Polydopamine nanoparticles also contain reactive groups that can react with biofunctional molecules, forming reversible dynamic covalent Schiff base bonds sensitive to pH values.

Enhancing the stability of zein/fucoidan composite nanoparticles with calcium ions for quercetin delivery

Hong Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, composite nanoparticles based on zein and fucoidan were prepared, and the effects of different calcium ion concentrations on the stability of the system loaded with quercetin were investigated. It was found that the addition of Ca2+ improved the release of active substances from the nanoparticles, especially at a concentration of 1.5 mM. This suggests potential applications for these composite nanosystems in delivering active substances.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
