A robust biocatalyst based on laccase immobilized superparamagnetic Fe3O4@SiO2-NH2 nanoparticles and its application for degradation of chlorophenols

Zhihui Chen et al.

Summary: This study proposes a biocatalytic method for the degradation of chlorophenols using enzyme-nanoparticle conjugated biocatalyst. The laccase from Trametes versicolor was immobilized on amino-functionalized superparamagnetic Fe3O4@SiO2-NH2 nanoparticles, which demonstrated improved stability and reusability compared to free laccase. The degradation efficiency of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) remained high even after multiple cycles. The study also identified the intermediate products and degradation pathway of chlorophenols. These findings suggest that this clean biotechnology could be an alternative method for the remediation of chlorophenol-contaminated water matrices.

Biomass-derived nanocellulose aerogel enable highly efficient immobilization of laccase for the degradation of organic pollutants

Dingsheng Wu et al.

Summary: This study presents a strategy for high-efficiency degradation of organic pollutants by integrating nanocellulose aerogel and laccase. Biomass-derived functional bacterial cellulose (BC) aerogel with a nanonetwork structure and high porosity was prepared, and coupled with laccase through ion coordination to form a biocatalyst platform. The results showed that this platform exhibited good biological affinity, high enzyme load, and structural stability, achieving degradation rates of 94.5% and 85.2% for reactive red X-3B and 2,4-dichlorophenol within 4 hours, respectively. This strategy provides a practical method for the degradation of organic pollutants.
