Effect-detection by planar SOS-Umu-C genotoxicity bioassay and chemical identification of genotoxins in packaging migrates, proven by microtiter plate assays SOS-Umu-C and Ames-MPF

Daniel Meyer et al.

Summary: High-performance thin-layer chromatography hyphenated with the SOS-Umu-C bioassay and S9 metabolization was used to assess the genotoxicity of various food contact materials. By studying different separation methods and dosage techniques, 14 genotoxic bands were detected, and three genotoxic candidates were identified in the paper migration. The in vitro SOS-Umu-C microtiter plate bioassay confirmed the genotoxicity of a simulated linolenic acid epoxidation, and the Ames-MPFTM bioassay confirmed the mutagenicity of the paper migration after concentration.

Multiplex planar bioassay detecting estrogens, antiestrogens, false-positives and synergists as sharp zones on normal phase

A. Ronzheimer et al.

Summary: By reducing zone diffusion on NP plates and developing a multiplex bioassay, the study successfully identified hormonal activities in botanicals and provided insights into unknown hormonally active compounds. This streamlined approach can be used to differentiate hormonal effects in complex samples and improve understanding of phytoestrogens.

Evolution of the adaptogenic concept from traditional use to medical systems: Pharmacology of stress- and aging-related diseases

Alexander G. Panossian et al.

Summary: Adaptogens are herbal medicinal and nutritional products promoting adaptability and survival in living organisms. They have pharmacologically pleiotropic effects on the neuroendocrine-immune system and exhibit a biphasic dose-effect response. Further research focusing on discovering new combinations of adaptogens and potential synergistic effects is needed to explore their full potential in treating stress and aging-related diseases.
