An authenticity method for determining hybrid rice varieties using fusion of LIBS and NIRS

Haiping Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method that combines laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to rapidly determine the authenticity of hybrid rice seeds. The results indicate that the proposed method is effective for rapid and accurate identification of parents and progenies of hybrid rice.

An explainable artificial intelligence approach for unsupervised fault detection and diagnosis in rotating machinery

Lucas C. Brito et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new approach for fault detection and diagnosis in rotating machinery, which includes feature extraction, fault detection, and fault diagnosis. Fault detection is achieved through vibration feature extraction and anomaly detection algorithms, while fault diagnosis is performed using the SHAP technique for interpretation of black-box models.

Correction of Temperature Variation with Independent Water Samples to Predict Soluble Solids Content of Kiwifruit Juice Using NIR Spectroscopy

Harpreet Kaur et al.

Summary: In this study, the changes in the water structure of kiwifruit juice with temperature variations were examined using the framework of aquaphotomics. The study focused on the first and second overtone regions of the OH stretch of water. The results showed that the use of external parameter orthogonalisation (EPO) and extended multiple scatter correction (EMSC) pre-processing methods improved the accuracy of predicting the soluble solids concentration (SSC) of kiwifruit juice.

Incorporating domain knowledge into machine learning for laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy quantification

Weiran Song et al.

Summary: This work investigates the feasibility of incorporating domain knowledge into machine learning to improve the performance of quantitative analysis in laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). A new regression method called DF-KELM is proposed, which constructs a linear physical principle based model using knowledge-based spectral lines and adopts K-ELM to explain the residuals. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed method achieves higher accuracy compared to traditional machine learning methods.

Applications of Explainable Artificial Intelligence in Diagnosis and Surgery

Yiming Zhang et al.

Summary: In recent years, artificial intelligence has shown promise in medicine, but lack of explainability limits its clinical applications. Explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) has been developed to overcome this limitation by providing both decision-making and explanations. This review surveys the recent trends in medical diagnosis and surgical applications using XAI and summarizes the methods, challenges, and future research directions.

A data fusion approach on confocal Raman microspectroscopy and electronic nose for quantitative evaluation of pesticide residue in tea

Alireza Sanaeifar et al.

Summary: This study focused on the quantitative detection of pesticide residue in tea using electronic nose (e-nose) and confocal Raman microspectroscopy (CRM), and found that combining the data from both technologies provided better prediction performance for pesticide residues in tea. The best prediction performance was achieved with 32 effective variables selected from the fusion dataset by the artificial neural network (ANN) model.

Muhammad Hilal Kabir et al.

Summary: This study successfully discriminated 16 millet varieties from different regions of China using Vis-NIR spectroscopy combined with machine learning techniques. SVM, RF, and LDA achieved F-Score values of 99.5%, indicating high discrimination performance. The study revealed that applying this technique can be a quick, relatively cheap, and non-destructive method for tracing the origins of millet.

Phosphorous Determination in Biochar-Based Fertilizers by Spark Discharge-Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy

Samia Rodrigues Dib et al.

Summary: A novel method combining spark discharge (SD) with LIBS was evaluated for determining phosphorus content in biochar-based fertilizers. By adding eucalyptus biochar to calibration standards, matrix effects were minimized and satisfactory accuracy was achieved even with similar but different matrices. This simple, fast, and direct method appears suitable for quality control of sustainable biochar-based fertilizers and other biochar products.

Evidence for magnesium-phosphorus synergism and co-limitation of grain yield in wheat agriculture

Martin Weih et al.

Summary: The study reveals that high nitrogen and phosphorus application significantly affect the growth and grain yield of wheat crops, and the ratio of magnesium to phosphorus has a significant impact on nitrogen conversion efficiency and grain yield. Replacing critical concentrations of single nutrients with nutrient ratios in practical production can enhance crop yields and management efficiency.
