Giani de Vargas Briao et al.

Summary: This study applied novel empirical methods such as artificial neural networks (ANN) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) to model the adsorption of the rare earth metal dysprosium on expanded vermiculite. The results showed that under the best experimental conditions, vermiculite achieved a removal efficiency of 99.2% for dysprosium.

Preparation and application of expanded and exfoliated vermiculite: A critical review

Mingliang Li et al.

Summary: Vermiculite has the unique property of volume expansion after heating, which can be further exfoliated into nanosheets. The preparation methods for expanded and exfoliated vermiculite are partly similar, including thermal, chemical, and mechanical treatments. The expanded vermiculite is mainly used for adsorption, energy storage, and flame retardant applications, while the exfoliated vermiculite has potential in nanocomposite materials for various applications.

Heating temperature effect on the hygroscopicity of expanded vermiculite

Jinpeng Feng et al.

Summary: The study explores the water absorption properties of expanded vermiculite prepared via electrical heating method and finds that the hygroscopicity of the material is inversely proportional to heating temperature. Factors such as interlamellar spacing and specific surface area are identified to affect water absorption capacity. Additionally, environmental humidity significantly impacts water absorption capacity and velocity, providing new insights for the development of vermiculite based thermal insulating materials.
