Condensed Tannins as Antioxidants in Ruminants-Effectiveness and Action Mechanisms to Improve Animal Antioxidant Status and Oxidative Stability of Products

David Soldado et al.

Summary: Condensed tannins (CTs) are secondary plant metabolites known for their antinutritional properties but also for their beneficial attributes for animal health and food quality, including antioxidant activity. Utilization of CT-rich sources in ruminant feeding can improve the animals' antioxidant status and oxidative stability of their products. However, the mechanism underlying the antioxidant activity of CT sources in ruminants is still not fully understood.

Dietary polyphenols suppress chronic inflammation by modulation of multiple inflammation-associated cell signaling pathways

Ibrahim Jantan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of dietary polyphenols in modulating inflammation-associated cell signaling networks, revealing their potential use in prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases. The polyphenols are shown to suppress multiple cell signaling pathways, including NF-kB, MAPK, Wnt/β-catenin, PI3K, and Akt, through selective actions on various components of the networks. Understanding the mechanistic effects of polyphenols on signaling pathways is crucial for lead identification and development of future functional foods for chronic inflammatory diseases.

Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Zingiber officinale roscoe and Allium subhirsutum: In Silico, Biochemical and Histological Study

Nourhene Zammel et al.

Summary: The study examined the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of ginger and wild leek aqueous extracts in a carrageenan-induced acute inflammation model, along with measurements of inflammatory markers and oxidative stress variables. In silico molecular docking simulation revealed high affinities between the main components of ginger and wild leek with toll-like receptor 6 (TLR6). Histological examinations of paw edema showed that both extracts alleviated inflammation and oxidative stress, demonstrating anti-edematous, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities. The results support the potential pharmacological use of these spices in managing inflammatory disorders and oxidative damage, with in silico assays effectively explaining the in vivo effects compared to indomethacin.
