Efficacy of alpha-mangostin for antimicrobial activity against endodontopathogenic microorganisms in a multi-species bacterial-fungal biofilm model

Warat Leelapornpisid

Summary: The study demonstrated that alpha-mangostin effectively inhibits the metabolic activity of bacterial-fungal mult-species biofilms in vitro, reducing the number of viable cells within the biofilms. The antibiofilm activity of alpha-mangostin was comparable to chlorhexidine, suggesting its potential as a novel agent for endodontic therapy.

Synergistics of Carboxymethyl Chitosan and Mangosteen Extract as Enhancing Moisturizing, Antioxidant, Antibacterial, and Deodorizing Properties in Emulsion Cream

Nareekan Chaiwong et al.

Summary: Carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCH) was synthesized from native chitosan to improve water solubility. The high-molecular-weight carboxymethyl chitosan (H-CMCH) had higher water solubility than native chitosan. H-CMCH was evaluated as an enhancing moisturizer in mangosteen extract deodorant cream, and it showed potential in enhancing skin moisturizing, deodorizing activity, antioxidant properties, and antibacterial properties.

Mangostanin, a Xanthone Derived from Garcinia mangostana Fruit, Exerts Protective and Reparative Effects on Oxidative Damage in Human Keratinocytes

Mario Abate et al.

Summary: The fruit of Garcinia mangostana, known as mangosteen, has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and anticancer activities. This study demonstrates that the polyphenols called xanthones in mangosteen can protect the skin from oxidative damage and prevent skin aging. Mangostanin, one of the xanthone derivatives, reduces the generation of reactive oxygen species, preventing cell damage and apoptosis activation. This research highlights the potential of mangostanin for development in the nutraceutical and cosmeceutical fields.
