Photizo: an open-source library for cross-sample analysis of FTIR spectroscopy data

Melissa Grant-Peters et al.

Summary: The open-source Python library, Photizo, has been developed to process high-resolution spectral data obtained by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) microspectroscopy. It allows for data pre-processing, visualization, and downstream analysis, including principal component analysis, clustering, macromolecular quantification, and mapping. Photizo can be used for both non-spatial and spatially resolved data analysis, making it a valuable tool for overcoming challenges and computational limitations in joint analysis of multiple samples.

Detection of Prostate Cancer via IR Spectroscopic Analysis of Urinary Extracellular Vesicles: A Pilot Study

Xin-Le Yap et al.

Summary: The study successfully isolated medium EVs from the urine of prostate cancer patients, and using FTIR spectroscopy, it was found that the analysis of urinary EVs may offer a novel strategy for the development of a noninvasive additional test for prostate cancer screening, showing a potential for discriminating prostate cancer with a sensitivity of 59% and a specificity of 81%.

Ultrarapid On-Site Detection of SARS-CoV-2 Infection Using Simple ATR-FTIR Spectroscopy and an Analysis Algorithm: High Sensitivity and Specificity

Valerio G. Barauna et al.

Summary: There is an urgent need for ultrarapid testing for detecting SARS-CoV-2 infections in real-time to stop its spread. Current testing approaches are time-consuming and inaccurate, but the new ATR-FTIR spectroscopy method offers a fast, reagent-free alternative that can provide results within 2 minutes, suitable for areas with high people traffic.

Diagnosis of liver cancer by FTIR spectra of serum

Xien Yang et al.

Summary: Liver cancer is the most common fatal malignant tumor in the world, and early diagnosis can improve the survival rate. FTIR spectroscopy combined with curve fitting and chemometrics showed differences in serum components between patients with liver cancer and healthy individuals. Principal component analysis and partial least squares discriminant analysis were able to accurately distinguish the serum of liver cancer patients from healthy individuals, highlighting the potential of FTIR spectroscopy as an effective diagnostic method for liver cancer.

Rapid Spectroscopic Liquid Biopsy for the Universal Detection of Brain Tumours

Ashton G. Theakstone et al.

Summary: Brain cancer, specifically gliomas, often go undetected until they are larger or at a higher grade due to non-specific symptoms. Early detection and diagnosis of brain tumors is crucial for better patient outcomes. A validated spectroscopic liquid biopsy approach shows promise in detecting small and low-grade gliomas, highlighting its potential for early detection and diagnosis.

Early economic evaluation to guide the development of a spectroscopic liquid biopsy for the detection of brain cancer

Ewan Gray et al.

Summary: The study conducted a cost-effectiveness analysis from a UK NHS perspective on the use of spectroscopic liquid biopsy in primary and secondary care settings, as well as a cost-consequence analysis of tumor-type predictions. The results demonstrate the potential for the technology to be cost-effective in both primary and secondary care settings.
