Enzymatic modification of native chitin and chitin oligosaccharides by an alkaline chitin deacetylase from Microbacterium esteraromaticum MCDA02

Summary: In this study, chitin deacetylase from Microbacterium esteraromaticum MCDA02 (MeCDA) was purified and characterized. The enzyme can efficiently catalyze the deacetylation of chitin and hydrolytic cleavage of the acetamido bond in GlcNAc units. These findings suggest a value-added utilization of chitin based biological resources.

Heterologous expression of pediocin/papA in Bacillus subtilis

Summary: Listeria monocytogenes is a food-borne pathogen. Pediocin, a bacteriocin naturally produced by Pediococcus acidilacticus and Lactobacillus plantarum, has anti-listeria activity. In this study, researchers were able to express active pediocin/PapA in heterologous hosts without the assistance of accessory proteins. They also successfully purified the PA1 protein.
