ICTAC Kinetics Committee recommendations for analysis of thermal decomposition kinetics

Nobuyoshi Koga et al.

Summary: In this review article, the Kinetics Committee of ICTAC provides recommendations for the kinetic analysis of thermal decomposition processes, focusing on inorganic, organic, and polymeric materials, as well as biomass and solid fuels. The article includes a general introduction to the kinetic analysis of thermal decompositions, followed by sections discussing specific materials and respective kinetic approaches. Various kinetic analysis procedures are introduced and explained progressively, providing examples of practical kinetic analysis. These recommendations aim to guide reliable and meaningful kinetic analysis in terms of practical usefulness and physico-chemical significance of the results.

Pyrolysis of cocoa shell and its bioenergy potential: evaluating the kinetic triplet, thermodynamic parameters, and evolved gas analysis using TGA-FTIR

Guilherme Davi Mumbach et al.

Summary: This study is the first attempt to investigate the cocoa shell pyrolysis in terms of kinetic triplet, thermodynamic parameters, and evolved volatile analysis using the TGA-FTIR technique. The results show that multiple kinetic triplets accurately describe the pyrolysis behavior of the cocoa shell, revealing the presence of high-energy compounds and useful chemicals. The compensation effect method proves to be superior in ensuring the consistency of the overall kinetic expression.

Comparative pyrolysis studies of lignocellulosic biomasses: Online gas quantification, kinetics triplets, and thermodynamic parameters of the process

Diakaridia Sangare et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the pyrolytic behavior of four lignocellulosic biomasses and found that activation energy versus enthalpy change was<6.5 kJ/mol for all biomasses, indicating the ease of pyrolysis reaction. Avocado stone and Agave salmiana bagasse were close to thermodynamic equilibrium and stability, while cocoa shell and a-cellulose showed high reactivity.

Pyrolysis kinetics and thermodynamic parameters of plastic grocery bag based on thermogravimetric data using iso-conversional methods

D. Saha et al.

Summary: The study on the pyrolysis kinetics of plastic grocery bags revealed varying activation energy values and pre-exponential factors under different methods, with the one-dimensional diffusion model being the most suitable to describe the pyrolysis process. The trends of the thermodynamic parameters indicate the ease of reaction of plastic grocery bags and their approach to thermodynamic equilibrium during the pyrolysis process.

Data-driven correlations of higher heating value for biomass, waste and their combination based on their elemental compositions

Phuris Khunphakdee et al.

Summary: In this study, data-driven correlation models were developed to assess the higher heating value (HHV) of biomass and waste solid fuels. Artificial neural networks (ANN) were used to connect inputs and outputs, and the models were tested using large datasets. The results showed high accuracy in predicting the HHV, and the findings are important for the design and operation of thermochemical conversion processes.
