Urea and thiourea based coordination polymers and metal-organic frameworks: Synthesis, structure and applications

Anirban Karmakar et al.

Summary: Coordination polymers (CPs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) constructed by self-assembly of metal ions and multidentate organic linkers have shown significant potential in diverse applications such as gas adsorption and separation, catalysis, and sensing. The tunability of functional organic ligands is crucial for the design of CPs/MOFs, and the incorporation of urea and thiourea groups has attracted considerable attention due to their conformational flexibility and strong hydrogen bonding capabilities. This review summarizes the recent developments in urea and thiourea functionalized frameworks, discussing their synthesis, structure, and applications in gas adsorption and separation, catalysis, and sensing.

Pyrene Carboxylate Ligand Based Coordination Polymers for Microwave-Assisted Solvent-Free Cyanosilylation of Aldehydes

Anirban Karmakar et al.

Summary: Two new coordination polymers, one-dimensional linear polymer and two-dimensional network structure, were synthesized and characterized. The compounds showed high activity as heterogeneous catalysts in solvent-free microwave-assisted cyanosilylation reactions of aldehydes, with compound 1 outperforming compound 2. The higher Lewis acidity of Zn(II) and greater accessibility of metal centers in compound 1 may contribute to its higher effectiveness.
