Soaking in CO2 huff-n-puff: A single-nanopore scale study

Do Yoon Moh et al.

Summary: The study investigates the soaking step of CO2 Huff-n-Puff in a single, 4 nm-wide calcite pore using molecular dynamics simulations. The results show that CO2 molecules can be adsorbed on pore walls and diffuse along the walls or into the pore's interior as free molecules. The movement of adsorbed and free CO2 molecules inside the pore obeys a specific scaling law, highlighting the importance of surface adsorption in the storage and transport of CO2 in unconventional oil reservoirs.

Interfacial resistance of gas transport through rigid and flexible zeolites

Jiasheng Song et al.

Summary: The lattice flexibility of zeolite significantly affects the transport diffusion of gases such as CH4, Ar and H2, with a pore breathing effect leading to enhanced interfacial resistance for CH4 and Ar but negligible impact on H2. The diffusivities of gases increase with zeolite thickness and reach constant values after critical thicknesses, emphasizing the dominant role of interfacial resistance for larger molecules. Loading dependency on interfacial resistances and critical thicknesses varies for CH4, Ar and H2, highlighting the importance of fluid-fluid interactions.

Molecular anatomy and macroscopic behavior of oil extraction from nanopores by CO2 and CH4

Do Yoon Moh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the gas-enhanced recovery of decane using CO2 and CH4 gases under reservoir conditions. The results show that both gases form free and adsorbed molecules within the pores, leading to the extraction of decane. The exchange between CO2 and decane is driven by adsorbed molecules initially, while the exchange between CH4 and decane is dominated by free molecules. However, the overall gas accumulation and decane extraction behavior for both CO2 and CH4 gases follow diffusion laws.

A comprehensive review of microwave application on the oil shale: Prospects for shale oil production

Jaber Taheri-Shakib et al.

Summary: Microwave irradiation accelerates the efficiency of oil shale pyrolysis and results in higher quality products than conventional heating methods. Additionally, microwave radiation has a better removal effect on impurities like sulfur and nitrogen in oil shale.

Characterization, controlling factors and evolution of fracture effectiveness in shale oil reservoirs

Lei Gong et al.

Summary: Fracture effectiveness plays a crucial role in shale oil exploration. This study evaluated the fracture effectiveness in the Cretaceous Qing-1 Member shale oil reservoir in Gulong Sag, China, and identified structural fractures as the most significant factor. Structural inversion, abnormal high pressure, and dissolution were found to have the least impact on fracture effectiveness.
