Molecular Weight Determination of Chitosan with Antibacterial Activity Using Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/lonization-Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry Analysis

Yong Hyun Lee et al.

Summary: The antibacterial effects of chitosan with different molecular weights were investigated. Chitosan hydrolysates CTSN-P30 and CTSN-B8 derived from high molecular weight chitosan showed synergistic antibacterial effects against Staphylococcus aureus in the presence of 1,3-butylene glycol. CTSN-P30 displayed significant antimicrobial activity and protected the membrane from the penetration of fine dust containing unspecified microorganisms.

Overcoming Methicillin-Resistance Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Using Antimicrobial Peptides-Silver Nanoparticles

Mohammad Asyraf Adhwa Masimen et al.

Summary: Antibiotics are a medical miracle, but bacteria quickly develop resistance, leading to MRSA becoming one of the most prominent antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Antimicrobial peptides and silver nanoparticles are considered alternative treatments for MRSA due to their broad-spectrum properties and potential synergistic effects.

Antibacterial Activity against Foodborne Pathogens and Inhibitory Effect on Anti-Inflammatory Mediators' Production of Brazilin-Enriched Extract from Caesalpinia sappan Linn

Thanawat Pattananandecha et al.

Summary: The study investigated the antibacterial activity and anti-inflammatory effects of extracts from Caesalpinia sappan L. heartwood. The extract prepared from 70% ethanol (EtOH) at 70 degrees C showed the highest content of brazilin and exhibited the strongest inhibitory effect on nitric oxide (NO), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) production. Additionally, this extract demonstrated excellent antibacterial activity against foodborne pathogens. These findings suggest the potential of C. sappan extract as a natural preservative in food and a natural active pharmaceutical ingredient.
