Selective removal of arsenic from crude antimony trioxide by leaching with nitric acid

Hongbin Ling et al.

Summary: The study successfully removed arsenic from crude antimony trioxide using a nitric acid leaching method, achieving high selectivity for arsenic removal and antimony recovery. The arsenic removal ratio reached 86%, while the antimony leaching ratio was only 0.3%, with successful conversion to antimony oxide suitable for commercial production.

A review of the technologies for antimony recovery from refractory ores and metallurgical residues

Hongbin Ling et al.

Summary: The global reserve of antimony is declining while demand continues to grow, making it an increasingly scarce metal. Little antimony has been recovered from waste plastics, leading many countries to rely on recovering antimony from refractory ores and metallurgical residues. Various innovative processes have been proposed for efficient and selective antimony recovery with minimal cost and impact.

Resilience in the antimony supply chain

Susan van den Brink et al.

Summary: This study examines the resilience mechanisms and price feedback loops in the antimony supply chain. It finds that the diversity of antimony supply is low, but recycling contributes significantly. Substitution is possible for some applications, but not for flame retardants. Stockpiling plays a significant role in supply disruptions. Recommendations include improving antimony recycling, diversifying production capabilities, and exploring stockpiles.

Characterization of antimony-containing metallurgical residues for antimony recovery

Hongbin Ling et al.

Summary: This paper presents a comprehensive characterization of three typical Sb-containing metallurgical residues, including their particle size distribution, chemical composition, morphology, and thermal transitions. Experimental studies on phase equilibria in antimony slag at 1000 degrees C were conducted to determine the distribution of Sb within different phases. Feasible Sb recovery technologies were proposed and critically discussed based on the characterization results.

Antimony Recovery from Lead-Rich Dross of Lead Smelter and Conversion into Antimony Oxide Chloride (Sb4O5Cl2)

Thupten Palden et al.

Summary: Antimony was selectively leached from a lead-rich industrial process residue by using hydrochloric acid in ethanol, achieving a high leaching efficiency of antimony and a low codissolution of lead. The dissolved antimony was recovered as high-purity antimony oxide chloride by hydrolysis precipitation, while the remaining ethanol in the pregnant leach solution was distilled for reuse. This valorization process contributes to sustainability and greenness.
