Determining the Optimum Process Parameters of Selective Laser Melting via Particle Swarm Optimization Based on the Response Surface Method

Fahri Murat et al.

Summary: To manufacture high-quality and desired products, it is necessary to carefully adjust the process parameters. This study utilized a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) approach to find the optimum process parameters for Selective Laser Melting (SLM) and maximize the tensile strength of the manufactured part. The Response Surface Method (RSM) was used to obtain a meta-model and predict the optimum process parameters without conducting excessive experiments.

Review of additive electrochemical micro-manufacturing technology

Xinchao Li et al.

Summary: Additive electrochemical micro-manufacturing (micro-AECM) is a nontraditional fabrication method that uses electrochemical deposition to manufacture metal-based microstructures layer by layer. It has the advantages of accurate geometric replication, void-free and crack-free microstructures, and is a true additive manufacturing technology. Several micro-AECM techniques have been developed and commercially implemented. This paper introduces the fundamental schematic of electrochemical deposition related to micro-AECM, reviews several typical micro-AECM techniques, and discusses the challenges, development trends and perspectives in micro-AECM.

Summary: Smart manufacturing and materials are increasingly used for producing high strength-to-weight ratio parts. Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is a prominent additive manufacturing technology for fabricating near-net-shape and high-quality surface parts. However, limitations in printing multi-materials, insufficient process parameter information, and porosities on printed parts restrict its industrial application.
