Correlation Between Microstructure, Mechanical Properties, and Corrosion Characteristics of AZ31 Mg Alloy Processed by Accumulative Roll Bonding Process

Sepehr Samiei et al.

Summary: The effect of the accumulative roll bonding (ARB) process on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion characteristics of AZ31 Mg alloy was investigated. The ARB process led to a decrease in grain size and an increase in yield strength and micro-hardness values. However, it also had an adverse effect on the corrosion characteristics of the samples.

Developing a High-Strength Al-Mg-Si Alloy with Improved Electrical Conductivity by a Novel ECAP Route

Nannan Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the microstructure, tensile and electrical properties of a Al-Mg-Si alloy processed through equal channel angular pressing. The results show that a two-step temperature schedule can effectively refine the grain size, increase the strength and improve the electrical conductivity by controlling nanosized precipitates. These findings have significant implications for enhancing the combined properties of low-alloyed Al-Mg-Si alloys.

Effect of pre-straining on structure and formation mechanism of precipitates in Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloy

Yao-yao Weng et al.

Summary: The effect of pre-straining on the structure and formation mechanism of precipitates in an Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloy was investigated using high-resolution HAADF-STEM. Elongated and string-like precipitates formed along the dislocations in the pre-strained alloy, exhibiting non-periodic atomic arrangement, Cu segregation at the precipitate/alpha(Al) interface, and different orientations. Four different formation mechanisms were proposed, leading to different atomic structures and morphologies of the precipitates.

Study of strain rate sensitivity exponent and strain hardening exponent of typical titanium alloys

Yanchun Zhu et al.

Summary: In this study, flow stress-strain curves of three typical titanium alloys were obtained through hot compression tests. The deformation activation energy, softening fraction, strain rate sensitivity exponents, and strain hardening exponents of the alloys were calculated and analyzed under different process parameters. The effect of nascent grain size on the strain rate sensitivity exponent and strain hardening exponent was also analyzed.

Quantitative analysis of influence of α-Al(MnFeCr)Si dispersoids on hot deformation and microstructural evolution of Al-Mg-Si alloys

Hiromi Nagaumi et al.

Summary: The microstructural evolution of AA6061 and Mn-bearing Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloys was studied. The presence of alpha-Al(MnFeCr)Si dispersoids in the Mn-bearing alloy increased the flow stress significantly. The alpha dispersoids in Mn-bearing alloys effectively refined the subgrain size and retarded dynamic recovery.

Summary: The study presents a new method to calculate the volume fraction of dispersoids in Al-Mg-Si alloys, increasing accuracy compared to traditional methods. A high temperature flow stress model based on dislocation theory was developed using experimental quantification of dispersoids, showing high accuracy in predicting flow stress.

Microstructure, mechanical properties and deformation characteristics of Al-Mg-Si alloys processed by a continuous expansion extrusion approach

Ruiqing Lu et al.

Summary: The strength and ductility of Al-Mg-Si alloys processed with double-pass CEEF were improved synchronously. The grain size of the processed alloy was refined remarkably, and the homogeneity of microstructure was gradually improved. The processed alloys also exhibited fine (sub)grains and high-density dislocations, leading to more needle-shaped precipitates and larger precipitate aspect ratio compared to the untreated alloys.
