Safety and recommendations for TMS use in healthy subjects and patient populations, with updates on training, ethical and regulatory issues: Expert Guidelines

Simone Rossi et al.

Summary: This article is based on a consensus conference held in Siena, Italy in October 2018, aiming to update safety guidelines for the application of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). New emerging issues discussed include safety concerns with recently developed stimulation devices, novel scenarios of TMS applications, and ethical considerations regarding neuroenhancement.

Subthreshold repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation drives structural synaptic plasticity in the young and aged motor cortex

Alexander D. Tang et al.

Summary: The study examined the effects of subthreshold rTMS on structural synaptic plasticity in the mouse motor cortex of young and aged mice. The results showed that subthreshold rTMS can alter the rate of dendritic spine losses and gains, and effectively drive structural synaptic plasticity in both young adult and aged mice.

A 3-axis coil design for multichannel TMS arrays

Lucia I. Navarro de Lara et al.

Summary: A novel modular 3-axis TMS coil was built and characterized for use as a unit element in large-scale multichannel TMS arrays. Results showed comparable stimulation intensity and negligible coupling between elements, validating the effectiveness of the 3-axis coil for multichannel TMS arrays.

Quintuple AISI 1010 carbon steel core coil for highly focused transcranial magnetic stimulation in small animals

Ivan C. Carmona et al.

Summary: Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive technique used to regulate synaptic activity in the brain, and can provide effective treatment for neurological and psychiatric disorders. This study presents the design and evaluation of customized coil arrays for focal stimulation, suitable for small animal experiments.

Effectiveness of Magnetic Stimulation in the Treatment of Urinary Incontinence: A Systematic Review and Results of Our Study

David Lukanovic et al.

Summary: The study found that magnetic stimulation (MS) is an effective non-invasive treatment for urinary incontinence (UI), improving symptoms in patients regardless of the type of UI. The greatest improvement was seen in patients with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Further research with larger sample sizes, control groups, optimal research protocols, pre-treatment analyses, standardization, and longer follow-ups is recommended.
