Programming-Based Optimal Learning Sliding Mode Control for Cooperative Dual Ship-Mounted Cranes Against Unmatched External Disturbances

Yuzhe Qian et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an adaptive dynamic programming-based optimal learning sliding mode controller for a 5 DOF dual ship-mounted crane system suffering from unmatched wave disturbances. The proposed controller addresses the nonlinearity and underactuation of the system and effectively mitigates positioning errors caused by wave disturbances. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller. The study highlights the importance of developing control methods for dual ship-mounted crane systems to improve their performance and safety in marine environments.

Neuroadaptive Control for Complicated Underactuated Systems With Simultaneous Output and Velocity Constraints Exerted on Both Actuated and Unactuated States

Tong Yang et al.

Summary: An adaptive full-state constraint controller is designed in this article to address the output and velocity constraints of a class of uncertain multi-input-multi-output underactuated systems. By constructing auxiliary functions and constraint terms, accurate positioning control of state variables such as displacements and angles is achieved, and the convergence and robustness are proven through rigorous stability analysis.

Eccentric-load dynamics and oscillation control of industrial cranes transporting heterogeneous loads

Tiantian Gao et al.

Summary: Industrial cranes are widely used to transport bulky loads in engineering applications. However, the presence of heterogeneous loads causes eccentricity between the mass center and centroid of the load. This article presents a dynamic model and control method for bridge cranes transporting heterogeneous loads, taking into account the swing and twisting dynamics under eccentric-load mechanisms. The simulated and experimental results verify the utility and effectiveness of the analytical model and control method.

Classification of 3-Degree-of-Freedom 3-UPU Translational Parallel Mechanisms Based on Constraint Singularity Loci Using Grobner Cover

Xianwen Kong

Summary: This paper presents a systematic study of 3-UPU translational parallel mechanisms (TPMs) with skewed base and moving platform. The classification of these TPMs is based on their constraint singularity loci, and a novel 3-UPU TPM is proposed. Reconfiguration analysis shows that this new TPM can only transition from a 3-DOF translational mode to one general 3-DOF operation mode. The work also reveals a 3-UPU parallel mechanism that allows for 3-DOF translation and 1-DOF infinitesimal rotation of the moving platform.

Modeling and observer-based robust controllers for telescopic truck cranes

Le Van Duong et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the complex control problem of telescopic truck cranes. A dynamic model and controllers are developed, and their effectiveness is validated through simulation results on a Grove-TMS500 truck crane. The controllers effectively eliminate oscillations caused by elastic components and provide robustness against wind and parameter uncertainties.

Periodic traveling waves in a taut cable on a bilinear elastic substrate

Lucio Demeio et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the wave propagation problem in a mechanical system consisting of a taut cable or string on a piecewise linear foundation, considering both with and without a distributed transversal load. The piecewise nature of the problem allows for a closed form solution for the wave phase velocity and wave form, dependent only on the ratio between the two soil stiffnesses. Numerical simulations confirm the analytical findings, and the stability of the proposed waves is discussed theoretically and numerically using return maps in phase space.
