Guided wavefield curvature imaging of invisible damage in composite structures

Ganggang Sha et al.

Summary: Guided wavefield curvature is proposed for the detection of structural damage, highlighting local anomalies associated with damage in wavefield signals. An imaging algorithm is developed for visualizing invisible damage in composite structures, successfully detecting delamination in a CFRP plate and debonding in a honeycomb sandwich panel. The effectiveness of the algorithm is confirmed by experimental results matching the actual locations, sizes, and shapes of the damage.

Structural Health Monitoring Using Ultrasonic Guided-Waves and the Degree of Health Index

Sergio Cantero-Chinchilla et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new damage index called degree of health (DoH) for real-time structural damage monitoring, using a pattern matching methodology based on fuzzy logic fundamentals. The proposed approach demonstrates efficiency and robustness in qualitative and quantitative assessment of fatigue crack damage using ultrasonic signals and transmission beamforming technique.

An efficient semi-analytical formulation for the Lamb-like waves in layered waveguides based on global discretization

Songhan Zhang et al.

Summary: An efficient semi-analytical method based on global discretization (GDSA) is proposed in this study to satisfy the continuity and boundary conditions in the health monitoring of layered structures. Through mathematical derivation and model building, it can accurately predict the majority of cut-off frequencies and develop a reduced-order eigenvalue problem. The convergence, accuracy, and efficiency of this method have been confirmed through benchmark tests and case studies.

Diagnosis of damaged tendons on a 10 MW multibody floating offshore wind turbine platform via a response-only functional model based method

Christos S. Sakaris et al.

Summary: This study investigates the problem of damaged tendon diagnosis in a new multibody offshore platform supporting a 10 MW Floating Offshore Wind Turbine. Vibration-based methodology is used for damage detection, damaged tendon identification and damage precise quantification, with successful results achieved through the Functional Model Based Method. The study demonstrates effective, reliable and quick damaged tendon diagnosis using the platform's dynamics under damaged tendons.
