Navigation-grade resonant fiber-optic gyroscope using ultra-simple white-light multibeam interferometry

Shuangxiang Zhao et al.

Summary: The miniaturization of the gyroscope is crucial for various applications such as spacecrafts and drones. The resonant fiber-optic gyroscope (RFOG) shows potential for miniaturization and high resolution, but its performance is affected by laser-induced noise and complexity. In this study, we present a navigation-grade RFOG with improved performance achieved by driving it with a broadband light source and using a simplified scheme.

Inhomogeneous spatial distribution of residual amplitude modulation in optical phase modulation using a bulk electro-optic crystal

Yunlin Zhi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the spatial inhomogeneity of residual amplitude modulation and identifies two distinct components. The analysis reveals that the spatial inhomogeneity can be explained by the acousto-optic interaction inside the crystal. Furthermore, suppressing this spatial inhomogeneity improves the stability of residual amplitude modulation.

Overcoming 1 part in 109 of earth angular rotation rate measurement with the G Wettzell data

A. D. V. Di Virgilio et al.

Summary: The absolute measurement of the Earth's angular rotation rate is important for studying the effects of General Relativity and Lorentz violation in the gravity sector, as well as providing information about the fast variation of the Earth's rotation rate. High sensitivity Ring Laser Gyroscopes (RLG) are currently the most promising technique for achieving this measurement task.

ROMY: a multicomponent ring laser for geodesy and geophysics

Heiner Igel et al.

Summary: ROMY is a four-component ring laser system consisting of four equilateral triangular ring lasers with 12 m side length, providing high-resolution observations of Earth's rotation and ground motions. When combined with a classic broad-band seismometer, it offers the most accurate 6 degree-of-freedom ground motion measurement system to date, enabling a wide range of seismic observations and analyses.

New method for residual amplitude modulation control in fibered optical experiments

Maxime Descampeaux et al.

Summary: When locking the frequency of a laser to an optical cavity resonance, the residual amplitude modulation (RAM) accompanying phase modulation is a major limitation to frequency stability. A new method using a single photodetector to generate two error signals has been proposed and demonstrated, overcoming limitations of traditional methods in optical setups with polarization dependent losses and imperfect polarizers.

The TianQin project: Current progress on science and technology

Jianwei Mei et al.

Summary: The TianQin project aims to detect gravitational waves using three Earth-orbiting satellites forming an equilateral triangle constellation, with the goal of detecting a wide range of astrophysical and cosmological sources. The project is utilizing the 0123 plan to develop key technologies and ground research facilities in order to start science operations by 2035. Major milestones have already been achieved, such as the launch of a new-generation retro-reflector and successful ranging to all five retro-reflectors on the Moon.
