Frailty and hospitalization-associated disability after pneumonia: A prospective cohort study

Chan Mi Park et al.

Summary: This study investigated the 30-day clinical course and functional outcomes of pneumonia in older adults with different levels of frailty. It found that older adults with higher frailty levels had a higher risk of death or functional decline in 30 days, and were more likely to require nasogastric tube feeding, prolonged hospitalization, and discharge to a long-term care institution. The study highlights the importance of frailty assessment in the acute care setting.

Fostering healthy aging: The interdependency of infections, immunity and frailty

Davide L. Vetrano et al.

Summary: The relationship between infections and frailty, as well as the impact of frailty on immune response in older adults, have been studied. Evidence suggests that there is a link between infections and frailty, and frailty may lead to impaired immune response in older ages. However, more research is needed to develop personalized immunization strategies for older adults.

Social networks and infectious diseases prevention behavior: A cross-sectional study in people aged 40 years and older

Lisanne C. J. Steijvers et al.

Summary: Social networks, including both strong relationships like friends and weak relationships like distant network members, play important roles in promoting infection-preventive behaviors. Further research is needed to explore how these relationships can be utilized in designing infectious disease control programs for middle-aged and older individuals.
