Glucose-tailored SnO2/TiO2/RGO ternary composite for degradation of organic pollutants

Haiyan Jiang et al.

Summary: The glucose-tailored SnO2/TiO2/reduced graphene oxide ternary composite demonstrates superior photocatalytic activity due to its tailored microstructure and SnO2/TiO2 heterojunction, which enhance light absorption, charge transfer, and carrier separation. The composite can efficiently degrade organic pollutants by generating O·-2 and ·OH radicals through a redox reaction. Additionally, a possible photodegradation mechanism is proposed based on a Z-scheme transfer mode.

An investigation of transition metal doped TiO2 photocatalysts for the enhanced photocatalytic decoloration of methylene blue dye under visible light irradiation

Periyakaruppan Karuppasamy et al.

Summary: The study focused on preparing semiconducting materials like TiO2 and transition metal-doped TiO2 using a sol-gel method and characterizing them through various analyses. Among them, Zn-doped TiO2 showed the best photocatalytic efficiency in decolouring Methylene blue dye under visible light irradiation. Results indicated that Zn-doped TiO2 had a lower band gap, leading to enhanced dye degradation compared to other catalysts. UV-vis spectra and the decolouration percentage of Methylene blue showed the superior photocatalytic activity of Zn-doped TiO2.

Insights into the extraction of photogenerated holes from CdSe/CdS nanorods for oxidative organic catalysis

Yuchen Sha et al.

Summary: Through aerobic oxidative coupling of thiophenol in organic media, it is demonstrated that CdSe/CdS nanorods can efficiently extract photogenerated holes and act as an efficient visible-light photocatalyst at a low concentration. Primary amines play a crucial role in transforming thiols into disulfides, with thiolate efficiently extracting photogenerated holes from CdSe/CdS nanorods and transforming into disulfide in organic solvent. Additionally, two reaction pathways are responsible for the S-S coupling of thiolate upon illumination of CdSe/CdS nanorods, showing the potential for efficient utilization of photogenerated holes for oxidative organic synthesis.
