Abnormal chemical composition fluctuations in multi-principal-element alloys induced by simple cyclic deformation

Mengyuan He et al.

Summary: The amplitude of the concentration wave in a Cantor alloy can be mechanically tailored under cyclic deformation, resulting in an enhancement of alloy strength. Atomic-scale mapping reveals that cyclic deformation can induce the clustering of solute atoms and promote interactions between dislocations and local solute clusters.

Effects of Ti addition on structural evolution and tensile properties of Co-free CrFeNi multi-principle element alloys

Jili Ding et al.

Summary: The microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti-x(CrFeNi)(100-x) multi-principle element alloys were systematically investigated. The addition of CrFeNi resulted in a heterogeneous microstructure containing grains and precipitates, leading to significantly improved yield strength and ultimate tensile strength. The Ti-4(CrFeNi)(96) alloy exhibited a high yield strength and good ductility, attributed to the existence of fine grains and L1(2) fine precipitates.

Refinement strengthening, second phase strengthening and spinodal microstructure-induced strength-ductility trade-off in a high-entropy alloy

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanical properties and deformation mechanisms of as-cast and cold rolled-annealed high-entropy alloy samples. The cold-rolled and annealed sample showed higher yield strength, ultimate strength, and good ductility compared to the as-cast sample. The RA sample exhibited significant changes in grain size, phase volume fraction, and dislocation walls.

High stress twinning in a compositionally complex steel of very high stacking fault energy

Effects of temperature on mechanical properties and deformation mechanisms of the equiatomic CrFeNi medium-entropy alloy

Mike Schneider et al.

Summary: Investigations on equiatomic CrFeNi medium-entropy alloy reveal stable face-centered cubic solid solution properties at specific temperatures. Cold-working and recrystallization processes can produce different grain sizes, showing varied mechanical properties and deformation mechanisms influenced by temperature. Analysis of deformation processes at different strains indicates a combination of dislocation glide and twinning mechanisms.

Introducing Laves phase strengthening into an ultrafine-grained equiatomic CrFeNi alloy by niobium addition

Dingshan Liang et al.

Summary: By adding niobium to form a Laves phase, the yield strength of the CrFeNi alloy can be enhanced. The study found that the modulus mismatch between Laves phase and fcc matrix is the main strengthening mechanism.

Relative mobility of screw versus edge dislocations controls the ductile-to-brittle transition in metals

Yan Lu et al.

Summary: Body-centered cubic metals exhibit a ductile-to-brittle transition at a critical temperature, controlled by the ratio of screw dislocation velocity to edge dislocation velocity. A physical model shows the importance of coordinated movement of screw and edge dislocation segments for sustaining dislocation multiplication. High relative mobility is crucial for the transition of dislocation sources from disposable to regeneratable ones.
