Role of martensitic transformation sequences on deformation-induced martensitic transformation at high strain rates: A quasi in-situ study

Minghao Huang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the mechanical behavior of steels with metastable austenite and found that high strain rates can inhibit martensitic transformation, leading to a limitation in alloy design. Experimental results showed that as the strain rate increased, martensitic transformation sequences changed, ultimately suppressing DIMT kinetics. The work provides methods to enhance DIMT behavior by tailoring martensitic transformation sequences, offering a comprehensive explanation for the strain-rate dependence of DIMT.

Effect of cooling rate on the precipitation behavior of.-carbide in Fe-32Mn-11Al-0.9C low density steel

Tinghui Man et al.

Summary: The effect of cooling rate on the precipitation behavior of kappa-carbide in Fe-32Mn-11Al-0.9C low density steel was studied. The results showed that decreasing the cooling rate resulted in increased content and size of kappa-carbide precipitations, which had different effects on the nanohardness of austenite and delta-ferrite.

Enhancing the properties of Al-Ni added medium Mn steel by tailoring B2-NiAl precipitates through aging treatment

Biraj Kumar Sahoo et al.

Summary: The effect of aging treatment on the strength-ductility combination of intercritically annealed medium Mn steel was studied. The results showed that both one-stage and two-stage aging treatments significantly improved the strength-ductility product of the steel. One-stage aging resulted in the formation of nano-sized NiAl precipitates, while two-stage aging led to phase-selective precipitation of varying sizes of NiAl. The two-stage aged sample exhibited a combination of TRIP-TWIP effect and precipitation strengthening, leading to sustained three-stage work-hardening during deformation and improved strength-ductility combination.

Effect of cold rolling and subsequent heat treatment on microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of Fe-Mn-Al-C-(Ni) based austenitic low-density steels

Bidyapati Mishra et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the effects of thermo-mechanical processing on the strength-ductility combination of low-density steel. The results show that the alloy composition, cold rolling, and heat treatment temperature influence the concurrent precipitation of particles and recrystallization, as well as the mechanical properties. The Mn/Ni ratio plays a crucial role in controlling the precipitation and recrystallization, leading to variations in the mechanical properties. The findings highlight the importance of precise control of processing parameters in enhancing the strength-ductility combination of low-density steel.

Tensile deformation behavior related with strain-induced martensitic transformation in a duplex Fe-Mn-Al-C low-density steel

Peng Chen et al.

Summary: The tensile deformation behavior of a duplex steel with banded ferrite and austenite structure was studied. The steel shows a good strength-ductility match and a three-stage deformation behavior, which is influenced by transformation-induced plasticity, twinning-induced plasticity, and dislocation slipping. The TWIP effect is only active in the final deformation stage, while the TRIP effect plays an important role throughout the majority of the deformation process.

Strain Rate Effect on Microstructural Evolution and Deformation Behavior of Medium-Mn Transformation-Induced Plasticity Steels

Naipeng Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of strain rate on the microstructural evolution and deformation behavior of medium-Mn TRIP steels, revealing a negative correlation between UTS and strain rate, with TE reaching a maximum of 32.0% at 10(-2) s(-1) before decreasing. The evolution of strain-induced martensitic transformation under different strain rates influences the fracture transition between quasicleavage fracture and ductile fracture in these steels.

Deformation mechanisms of a novel Mn-based 1 GPa TRIP/TWIP assisted lightweight steel with 63% ductility

Shenghui Sun et al.

Summary: By utilizing the Mn preservation-cold rolling-intercritical annealing route, a novel Mn-based lightweight steel with bimodal grain size distribution was obtained, showing a good balance of high strength and high ductility. The bimodal distribution of austenite grains triggered multi-stage TRIP effects and TWIP-coordinated TRIP effects, improving strain hardening ability while maintaining high tensile ductility.

Strain Rate Dependent Ductility and Strain Hardening in Q&P Steels

Christopher B. Finfrock et al.

Summary: Q&P steels have the potential to reduce vehicle mass and energy consumption, enhancing ductility and strain hardening through DIMT. Precise control of austenite stability is crucial for improving mechanical performance. Increasing strain rates may lead to reduced uniform elongation and a need to balance competing effects for further optimization.

Effect of intercritical annealing temperature on multiphase microstructure evolution in ultra-low carbon medium manganese steel

Gang Liu et al.

Summary: The effect of intercritical annealing temperature on the multiphase microstructure evolution of 0.02C-7Mn steel was investigated, showing that the content and morphology of different phases strongly depended on the annealing temperature. The results indicated that decreasing the C and Mn contents, as well as increasing the lath size of reversed austenite, decreased the thermal stability and stacking fault energy, leading to different martensitic transformations under varying intercritical annealing temperatures.
