Influence of varying distribution distance and angle on fatigue wear resistance of 40Cr alloy steel with laser bionic texture

H. Li et al.

Summary: A new laser bionic texture technology using the bionic principle and laser surface texturing technology is proposed to enhance the fatigue wear resistance of 40Cr alloy steel. Experimental results showed that 40Cr alloy steel samples with specific bionic texture distribution distance and angle had better wear resistance.

Rolling contact fatigue behaviors of 25CrNi2MoV steel combined treated by discrete laser surface hardening and ultrasonic surface rolling

Xiongfeng Hu et al.

Summary: The effects of DLSH and USR on the material properties and rolling contact fatigue behaviors of 25CrNi2MoV steel were investigated. The results showed that the combination of DLSH and USR improved the surface quality, increased surface hardness, and obtained beneficial surface compressive residual stress. The rolling contact fatigue life of the treated samples was significantly increased compared to the untreated samples.

Effect of hardness gradient of laser bionic coupling unit on wear resistance of 6082 aluminum alloy

Guoping Zhao et al.

Summary: Different hardness units were processed using laser melting to form a biomimetic surface that simulates the non-smooth surface of natural organisms. The influence of unit hardness gradient on wear resistance was discussed, and the experiment showed that samples with three hardness gradient units exhibited the highest wear resistance. The bionic wear-resistant mechanism of soft and hard phases was also analyzed and discussed.

Numerical investigation on the rolling contact wear and fatigue of laser dispersed quenched U71Mn rail

Jizhong Zhao et al.

Summary: Numerical investigation was conducted on the influences of laser dispersed quenching (LDQ) technology on the rolling contact wear and fatigue of U71Mn rail. The results indicate that LDQ treatment can significantly improve wear resistance of rails while having little effect on fatigue crack initiation life.

Investigation on the parameters optimization and sliding wear behaviors under starved lubrication of discrete laser surface hardened 25CrNi2MoV steel

Xiongfeng Hu et al.

Summary: The discrete laser surface hardening parameters were optimized for 25CrNi2MoV steel to enhance its surface sliding wear resistance. The treatment changed the surface microstructures, hardness, and residual compressive stress, delaying severe scuffing failure and reducing wear loss. Different laser power and irradiation time matching strategies led to variations in surface wear mechanisms.

Formation of discrete periodic nanolayered coatings through tailoring of nanointerfaces-Toward zero macroscale wear

Mahdi Khadem et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the engineering of nanointerfaces in diamond-like C/Cr nanolayered coatings to improve wear resistance at the macroscale. The coating with subnanometer-thick periodic Cr interlayers showed reduced interfacial defects and record-breaking wear rates. Finite Element analysis and micropatterning strategy were used to further decrease the wear rate, and a dimensionless parameter for predicting wear resistance of carbon-based nanolayered coatings was discovered.

Mechanical property enhancement in gradient structured aluminum alloy by ultrasonic nanocrystalline surface modification

Juhee Oh et al.

Summary: By utilizing ultrasonic nanocrystalline surface modification (UNSM) on aluminum alloys, a new heterogeneous microstructure was designed, resulting in increased strength and ductility of the material. This study demonstrates that a high shear strain and controlled processing temperature can effectively enhance the mechanical properties of low-melting temperature metallic alloys.

Adriel Magalhaes Souza et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of laser polishing on the surface roughness and wettability of AISI 316L SS produced by DED, proposing equations to predict surface roughness and remelted layer thickness as a function of laser power. The results showed significant improvement in surface roughness and wettability parameters, with no alteration in microstructure/microhardness observed after laser polishing.
