Investigation of austenite decomposition behavior and relationship to mechanical properties in continuously cooled medium-Mn steel

Y. Dong et al.

Summary: By combining TMCP and continuous cooling processes, the austenite decomposition behavior in medium-Mn steel was investigated. The study found that manganese expanded the austenite region and the cooling rate affected the microstructural evolution. Control of martensite lath morphology and internal dislocation density was key to tailoring the yield ratio without compromising tensile strength, and high angle grain boundaries and nonparallel structures could effectively deviate or terminate crack propagation.

Mechanisms of austenite growth during intercritical annealing in medium manganese steels

Rama Srinivas Varanasi et al.

Summary: The study investigates the mechanisms of austenite growth in medium manganese steel, providing evidence of manganese transport to austenite through grain boundary diffusion, grain boundary migration, and dislocation pipe diffusion. Furthermore, the influence of grain boundary misorientation on austenite growth is also reported.

Microstructural origin and control mechanism of the mixed grain structure in Ni-based superalloys

Baoyun Zhang et al.

Summary: This study deeply explores the microstructural origin and control mechanism of mixed grain structure and determines the optimum processing parameters through thermo-mechanical processing. The evolution of microstructure corresponding to the identified optimal parameters is systematically investigated. The study reveals that discontinuous dynamic recrystallization and continuous dynamic recrystallization mechanisms occur simultaneously, and the grain boundary bulging discontinuous dynamic recrystallization dominates the microstructure control.

Effects of minor Nd and Er additions on the precipitation evolution and dynamic recrystallization behavior of Mg-6.0Zn-0.5Mn alloy

Bin-Jiang Lv et al.

Summary: A new wrought magnesium alloy based on Mg-6.0Zn-0.5Mn has been developed, exhibiting a superior combination of high tensile yield strength and good ductility. Addition of minor neodymium and erbium accelerates twinning, dynamic recrystallization, and dynamic precipitation processes, leading to improved mechanical properties. The alloy demonstrates enhanced yield strength, tensile strength, and elongation due to fine complete DRX grains, second phase particles, and a high density of precipitates resulting from the micro-alloying.

Modelling and experimental validation of austenite growth from As-quenched martensite during intercritical annealing of a medium-Mn steel

Guanqiang Lin et al.

Summary: The growth of austenite from as-quenched martensite during intercritical annealing of a medium-Mn steel was studied using numerical simulation and experimental verification. Three models were proposed based on the presence of cementite and nucleation position of austenite, with Setup 2 considered to be the optimal model.
