Poly tannic acid carbon rods as anode materials for high performance lithium and sodium ion batteries

Gang Huang et al.

Summary: This paper reports the synthesis of rod-shaped biomass-derived carbon material (PTA-700) using tannic acid as a precursor, which possesses abundant mesopores and defects, providing more active sites and space for lithium and sodium ions storage and transfer. PTA-700 exhibits excellent electrochemical performance in lithium ion batteries and sodium ion batteries, and solves the problems faced by traditional biomass-derived carbons in commercialization.

Enhanced cycling stability and storage performance of Na0.67Ni0.33Mn0.67-xTixO1.9F0.1 cathode materials by Mn-rich shells and Ti doping

Xin Li et al.

Summary: We propose a synergistic strategy of titanium doping and surface coating to modify the Na-rich manganese-oxide-based cathode material in sodium-ion batteries, resulting in enhanced electrochemical performance. The optimized Ti doping amount is found to be x = 0.3. Additionally, the cathode material coated with a manganese-rich shell exhibits excellent electrochemical performance, with a discharge capacity of 169 mAh/g and a capacity retention rate of 71% after 500 charge-discharge cycles. The Ti doping and surface coating with a Mn-rich shell improve the specific discharge capacity, cycling stability, rate capability, and mitigate voltage decay.

V2O3@C optimized by carbon regulation strategy for ultra long-life aqueous zinc-ion batteries

Xiangjie Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, V2O3 nanospheres with a carbon shell were successfully synthesized and tested for their electrochemical performance in AZIBs. The sample obtained at a calcination temperature of 800℃ (VC-800) showed the best capacity retention and cycle life. The presence of the carbon shell improved conductivity and maintained the reversible redox activity of V2O3.

Suppressed P2-P2′ phase transition of Fe/Mn-based layered oxide cathode for high-performance sodium-ion batteries

Guohua Zhang et al.

Summary: P2-type Fe/Mn-based layered oxide cathode has attracted significant attention for its low cost, low toxicity, earth abundance, and high theoretical capacity in sodium-ion battery applications. However, the harmful P2-P2' phase transition associated with the Jahn-Teller effect of Mn3+ during the discharge process limits its cycling stability. In this study, Al-doping is proposed as an effective strategy to suppress the phase transition and improve the cycling stability and rate capability of the electrode.
