Defects engineering and enhancement in optical and structural properties of 2D-MoS2 thin films by high energy ion beam irradiation

Deepika Gupta et al.

Summary: In this study, MoS2 thin films were tailored by ion beam irradiation, leading to a reduction in crystallinity, weakening of Raman peaks, slight decrease in transmittance, and enhancement in PL intensity. The structural, morphological, and optical properties of the films were significantly influenced by the high energy ion beam, as validated by various analyses including XRD, Raman spectroscopy, and RBS.

Antisite defect qubits in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides

Jeng-Yuan Tsai et al.

Summary: The study identifies suitable defect centers in two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides and assesses their potential as solid-state spin qubits through high-throughput simulations. The authors show that these atomically thin materials offer a new platform for scalable qubit fabrication and operation at room temperature. The presence of neutral antisite defects in the transition metal dichalcogenides is found to enable controllable spin qubits with a paramagnetic triplet ground state.

Electronic structure engineering of 2-D MoS2 sputtered thin films under ion beam irradiation: Induced by controlled defect generation

Deepika Gupta et al.

Summary: This study investigates how lattice defects on the surface of Transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), specifically Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), impact the electronic structure. The use of swift heavy ion irradiation can induce defects in MoS2 thin films, altering their optical and morphological properties and thus potentially controlling device efficiency.

Electronic Structure of Quasi-Freestanding WS2/MoS2 Heterostructures

Borna Pielic et al.

Summary: In this study, WS2-MoS2 and WS2/MoS2 heterostructures were successfully grown on graphene under ultrahigh-vacuum conditions. Scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS) was used to examine the electronic structure, while density functional theory (DFT) was utilized to calculate band structures and density of states (DOS) maps. The research confirmed the importance of sharp interfaces, large built-in electric field, and narrow depletion region widths for future electronic and optoelectronic device design.

Summary: This study reports on the use of downstream H-2 plasma to clean the surface of monolayer WS2 and demonstrates the essentiality of high-temperature processing. Additionally, low-temperature in situ carbonyl sulfide (OCS) soak is found to be an efficient way to resulfurize the material. The combination of H-2 plasma cleaning and OCS restoration maintains the transport properties of WS2 devices.
