Comparative analysis of mechanical properties for mono and poly-crystalline copper under nanoindentation - Insights from molecular dynamics simulations

Anil B. Shinde et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the mechanical performance of monocrystalline copper systems, specifically Cu(111), under nanoindentation is superior to any other copper systems. Cu(111) exhibited an average hardness of 12.62 GPa, which is 18.27% higher than that of Cu-poly. The elastic depth recovery rate for Cu(100) was 52.75%, 41.60% and 40.66% higher than that of Cu(100), Cu(111) and Cu-poly, respectively.

The role of topological defects on the mechanical properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes

Daniela A. Damasceno et al.

Summary: Carbon nanotubes are widely used in developing new technologies, with their mechanical properties influenced by chirality and defects. Tensile strength of SWCNTs is significantly dependent on defect configurations, and certain combinations of defects can control fracture patterns, contributing to the design of innovative nanostructures with tailored properties.

Designing porous electrode structures for supercapacitors using quenched MD simulations

Ayush Khaitan et al.

Summary: In this study, hierarchical porous structured electrodes were generated using quenched molecular dynamics simulations with different quench rates applied on liquid carbon system. The porous carbon structures showed an increase in pore size distribution with decreasing quench rate. These lightweight porous carbon structures may have future implications as electrodes for supercapacitors.

Electro-codeposition and properties of Cu-Ni-MWCNTs composite coatings

Ajay D. Pingale et al.

Summary: In this study, multi-walled carbon nanotubes reinforced Cu-Ni matrix composite coatings were successfully produced by electro-codeposition method. The addition of MWCNTs led to enhanced microhardness and wear resistance of the coatings, with the Cu-Ni-MWCNT (0.15 g L-1) composite coating showing the best performance. Electrical studies also revealed that MWCNTs played a vital role in improving the electrical conductivity of the coatings.

On the Determination of Elastic Properties of Single-Walled Boron Nitride Nanotubes by Numerical Simulation

Nataliya A. Sakharova et al.

Summary: This study investigated the elastic properties of chiral and non-chiral single-walled boron nitride nanotubes across a wide range of chiral indices and diameters using a three-dimensional finite element model. The impact of input parameters on numerical simulation results was extensively explored, and the elastic properties of single-walled boron nitride nanotubes were compared with those of single-walled carbon nanotubes.
