Structural Phase Transformations of Gallium Ion Irradiated SUS304 Steel

Hanako Tsuruta et al.

Summary: The plan view and cross sectional microstructures of SUS304 steel irradiated by gallium focused ion beam were investigated using electron backscatter diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The study confirmed structural phase transformation and gallium implantation in the irradiated region, with increased bcc phase and gallium concentration observed with higher irradiation doses. The role of gallium implantation as a ferrite stabilizer and source of stress effect was highlighted, along with an analysis of crystallographic orientation relationships and transformation behaviors between different austenite grains.
