Study on the three-dimensional tensile creep anisotropy of a hot-rolled Mg-0.9Mn-1.5Ce alloy sheet

Dongliang Chen et al.

Summary: The three-dimensional tensile creep anisotropy of a hot-rolled Mg-0.9Mn-1.5Ce alloy sheet was investigated, and the results showed a strong dependence of creep behavior on the loading direction. Different creep mechanisms were observed in different loading directions, leading to variations in creep resistance.

Enhanced superplasticity achieved by disclination-dislocation reactions in a fine-grained low-alloyed magnesium system

Min Zha et al.

Summary: Superplastic forming is crucial for producing complex-shaped components in Mg-alloys, especially in high-alloyed systems. However, stabilizing small grains and facilitating grain boundary sliding in low-alloyed systems is challenging due to insufficient precipitates. Through a unique design strategy involving solute segregation, an Mg-1Zn-0.2Ca-0.2Zr-0.1Ag (wt.%) alloy achieved ~450% superplastic strain by absorbing intragranular dislocations through stress-driven grain boundary migration mediated by disclination-dislocation reactions. This study provides insights into the relationship between microstructural defects evolution and strain accommodation during superplastic deformation, shedding light on the nature of superplasticity mechanism.

Simultaneously achieving excellent mechanical properties and high thermal conductivity in a high Mn-containing Mg-Zn-Ca-Al-Mn sheet alloy

Xinsheng Huang et al.

Summary: The study found that increasing the manganese content can significantly enhance the yield strength of Mg-3Zn-0.5Ca-0.5Al-xMn alloy, but further increasing to 1.5 wt% manganese content does not contribute to further strengthening. However, the alloy with 1 wt% manganese added achieved high strength, high formability, and improved thermal conductivity.

Anisotropy in the tensile creep behaviors of a hot-rolled Mg-5.5wt%Y alloy sheet

Yuxiu Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the tensile creep anisotropy of a hot-rolled Mg-5.5 wt%Y alloy sheet was investigated. It was found that a poor creep resistance was obtained along the normal direction due to stress concentration induced by twin boundaries, while a good creep resistance was achieved along the rolling and transverse directions. Additionally, the addition of 5.5 wt%Y was shown to enhance crack resistance of grain boundaries over that of twin boundaries in Mg-Y based alloys.

Mechanism of high-strength and ductility of Mg-RE alloy fabricated by low-temperature extrusion and aging treatment

Xueze Jin et al.

Summary: The effect of initial microstructure on the precipitation behavior, microstructure evolution, and mechanical properties of the Mg-6Gd-4Y-0.5Zn-0.5Zr alloy was studied. Low-temperature extrusion and aging treatment were proposed as an effective way to fabricate high-strength and ductile Mg-RE alloy. Various strengthening mechanisms such as grain boundary strengthening, solid solution strengthening, and precipitation strengthening play a significant role in the high-strength Mg-RE alloy.

Effects of Yttrium Content on the Three-Dimensional Compressive Creep Anisotropy of Mg-Y Alloys

Yuxiu Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the compressive creep behaviors of different Mg alloys at 523K were systematically investigated, showing a dependence on loading direction and an increase in creep resistance with higher Y content. The addition of Y also helped to reduce creep anisotropy and improve creep resistance, with dynamic precipitation strengthening further enhancing creep resistance in certain alloys.
