Dynamically dual-tunable dual-band to four-band metamaterial absorbers based on bulk Dirac semimetal and vanadium dioxide

BaoJing Hu et al.

Summary: In this work, we investigate dynamically dual-tunable dual-band, triple-band, and four-band metamaterial absorbers (MAs) based on a bulk Dirac semimetal (BDS) and vanadium dioxide (VO2). The dual-band, triple-band, and four-band MAs can be realized when the VO2 is in a fully metallic state due to the bright-bright mode coupling between BDS rods. The average absorptivity of the absorption peaks in the three MAs reaches high values. The resonant frequencies and absorptance intensities at absorption peaks in each MA can be dynamically tuned by varying the BDS Fermi energy and the VO2 conductivity.

Ultra-thin deep ultraviolet perfect absorber using an Al/TiO2/AlN system

Yuusuke Takashima et al.

Summary: An ultra-thin perfect absorber for deep ultraviolet light was achieved using an Al/TiO2/AlN system. The TiO2 thickness was optimized to achieve almost perfect light absorption despite the thin film being much thinner than the wavelength. The optimized system demonstrated an average absorption greater than 97% for wavelengths of approximately 255-280 nm at normal light incidence. This structure has the advantage of not requiring nanopatterning processes, making it suitable for low-cost and large-area manufacturing.

The tunable single-/narrow-band terahertz metamaterial absorber through photoconductivity

Siyuan Liu et al.

Summary: This work presents a photo-excited terahertz metamaterial absorber (PETMA) that can be switched between single-band and narrow-band absorption. The PETMA consists of three layers, including a metal plate, a dielectric layer, and a top unit attached to the dielectric substrate. By controlling the conductivity of silicon using an optical pump beam, the PETMA can achieve single-band and narrow-band absorption at different frequencies. The simulations demonstrate that the proposed PETMA exhibits stable absorption performance at wider incident angles.
