Insights into Growth Kinetics of Colloidal Gold Nanoparticles: In Situ SAXS and UV-Vis Evaluation

Xuelian Chen et al.

Summary: Understanding the formation process and kinetics is critical for preparing monodisperse colloidal nanocrystals with controllable size and morphology. In this study, in situ UV-vis and time-resolved in situ small-angle X-ray scattering were used to monitor gold salt reduction and the nucleation and growth kinetics of gold nanoparticles. The presence of oleic acid ligands in the system was found to cause dissolution of larger particles and growth of smaller ones at the expense of larger ones at the initial growth stage. Nucleation and growth processes were shown to be dependent on ligand-NP binding affinity.

Time-Resolved Small-Angle X-ray Scattering Studies during Aqueous Emulsion Polymerization

Adam Czajka et al.

Summary: The study investigated the aqueous emulsion polymerization of TFEMA using persulfate initiation and monitored the particle size evolution using SAXS and DLS. Well-defined spherical latexes were formed under different conditions, with significant differences observed between surfactant-free and SDS formulations. Comparable polymerization kinetics were observed for in situ SAXS experiments and laboratory-scale syntheses.
