Development of edible composite film based on chitosan nanoparticles and their application in packaging of fresh red sea bream fillets

Ran Zhao et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the films containing cinnamon-perilla essential oil Pickering nanoemulsion had better mechanical properties, while films with anthocyanidins showed enhanced antioxidant activity. Preservation experiments revealed that the composite film with plant essential oil compound anthocyanidin had the best preservation effect on fillets.

Polysaccharide-Based Edible Gels as Functional Ingredients: Characterization, Applicability, and Human Health Benefits

Mihaela Stefana Pascuta et al.

Summary: Polysaccharide-based edible gels (PEGs) have gained attention for their valuable attributes, especially gelling property. This manuscript provides an overview of the classification, formulation, and characterization of PEGs, and critically discusses their applicability in the food and medical/pharmaceutical sectors. It also explores the correlation between PEG consumption and polysaccharides properties for human health for the first time.

Development of Biodegradable Films Loaded with Phages with Antilisterial Properties

Carol Lopez de Dicastillo et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Listex P100 bacteriophage has strong inhibitory and bactericidal effects against Listeria monocytogenes at different growth phases, with particularly high efficacy in the stationary phase. The active films incorporating Listex P100 showed good antimicrobial capacity against L. monocytogenes, especially under refrigeration conditions.
