Fluorescent concentrator based MISO-NOMA for visible light communications

Zhaoming Wang et al.

Summary: The experimental realization of multiple-input single-output (MISO) in visible light communication (VLC) has always been challenging. A quantum dot (QD) fluorescent concentrator combined with power domain multiplexing of a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) scheme is proposed to overcome the difficulties. The system achieves a high data rate and provides a promising connection for the Internet of things (IoT), even in underwater environments.

Bandwidth limits of luminescent solar concentrators as detectors in free-space optical communication systems

Mark Portnoi et al.

Summary: Modeling the bandwidth limits of Luminescent Solar Concentrators (LSCs) offers vital insights into their behavior and provides a technique for evaluating their use in various applications. Although LSCs have emerged as a promising receiver technology in free-space optical communications due to their ability to collect light from a wide field-of-view and concentrate it into small areas, the comparably slow timescale of their fluorescence events may pose a bottleneck on the bandwidth of high-speed communication systems. A team of researchers led by Ioannis Papakonstantinou from University College London has developed a technique that delineates the fundamental limits of LSCs as optical detectors and demonstrated time-domain Monte-Carlo simulation for optimizing LSC based receiver systems. The work opens the door for the use of LSCs in applications in visible light communications, high-speed video recording, and real-time biological imaging.

Vehicular Visible Light Communications: A Survey

Agon Memedi et al.

Summary: Visible Light Communications (VLC) is an emerging communication technology that is maturing, especially for indoor usage, and shows potential for outdoor applications such as Vehicular VLC (V-VLC). V-VLC can benefit from the vast spectrum and LED-based lighting systems of modern cars, providing low interference and a smaller collision domain. This survey article examines the state of V-VLC technology and highlights open issues and challenges, serving as a guide for beginners and identifying research questions for experts in the field.
