Enzymatic preparation of hydrophobic biomass with one-pot synthesis and the oil removal performance

Dan Peng et al.

Summary: This study prepared a high-efficiency oil sorbent by grafting a long-chain alkyl substance onto the surface lignin of corn stalk pith. The sorbent exhibited good hydrophobicity, superoleophilicity, and high oil sorption capacity. The sorption mechanism involves the H-bond effect, hydrophobic effect, and van der Waals force.

Recent advances in chemical durability and mechanical stability of superhydrophobic materials: Multi-strategy design and strengthening

Peng Wang et al.

Summary: Inspired by the lotus leaf effect, this review proposes four approaches for constructing highly stable superhydrophobic materials based on wettability mechanisms and failure modes. The design ideas, strengthening approaches, and characterization tools of stable superhydrophobic materials are introduced in detail. The development, current status, and prospects of durable superhydrophobic materials are also presented, providing insights and design guidelines for their fabrication.

Interaction between hydrocarbon oil and hydrophilic mineral surfaces: A chemical force microscopy and molecular dynamics simulation study

Yangchao Xia et al.

Summary: In this study, the interactions between hydrocarbon oil and hydrophilic mineral surfaces were explored using CFM and MD simulations. Different functional groups were found to significantly influence the adhesion force between the oil collector and mineral surface, with polar hydrocarbon oils adhering strongly to the surface. The combination of MD and CFM provided a theoretical reference for mineral flotation separation.

Enhanced electrochemical performance of flexible asymmetric supercapacitor based on novel nanostructured activated fullerene anchored zinc cobaltite

Ritik Mohanty et al.

Summary: The rational design and development of nanostructured materials with unique structure and superior electrochemical activity are urgently needed for achieving ultra-high energy storage performance. In this study, activated fullerene decorated over zinc cobaltite (A-C-60-ZCO) was synthesized and its performance as a supercapacitor was evaluated. The synthesized nanocomposite exhibited enhanced specific capacitance and cyclic stability, attributed to the combination of A-C-60 and ZCO. The constructed flexible asymmetric supercapacitor device demonstrated high energy density and excellent cycling performance.

Mechanism of ozone-improved surface flashover performance of epoxy composites

Mingru Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the ozone modification of epoxy composites and its effect on the surface flashover voltage. The results show that ozone oxidation changes the surface chemistry, leading to a lower trap density and improving the flashover voltage. This research provides insights into the mechanism of ozone modification in enhancing surface flashover performance.

Anti-fouling materials decorated immunoprobe and electrochemical sensing interface to improve immunoassay

Xuanze Meng et al.

Summary: Designing anti-fouling immunosensors is an important topic in the field of immunosensing. Non-labeled anti-fouling immunosensors are popular but often overlooked for their low sensitivity. The adsorption and agglutination issues caused by hydrophobicity decoration of immunoprobes are generally ignored. By synthesizing a hydrophilic immunoprobe and applying it to construct a labeled anti-fouling immunosensor, these problems can be effectively addressed.

Loose nanofiltration membranes based on interfacial glutaraldehyde-amine polymerization for fast and highly selective dye/salt separation

Tengfei Pei et al.

Summary: In this study, loose nanofiltration membranes based on the interfacial polymerization reaction between glutaraldehyde and amine were developed for dye/salt separation. The resulting membranes showed excellent permeance, hydrophilicity, and dye/salt selectivity. The addition of sodium dodecyl sulfate helped regulate monomer diffusion behavior and improve membrane performance. The membranes also exhibited good anti-fouling properties, making them suitable for dye recycling and purification.

Molecular Insights on the Wetting Behavior of a Surface Corrugated with Nanoscale Domed Pillars

Liyi Bai et al.

Summary: In this study, all-atom molecular dynamics simulation was used to investigate the wettability of a surface texturized with nanoscale pillars of different shapes. The results showed that the presence of domed pillars prevented the depinning of the contact line at the liquid-vapor-solid interface, while rectangular or cylindrical pillars allowed for it. Additionally, the penetration of liquid into the gap between pillars was found to be symmetrical for domed pillars and asymmetrical for rectangular or cylindrical pillars.
