Assessment of the thermal pyrolysis characteristics and kinetic parameters of spent coffee waste: a TGA-MS study

Sevgi Polat et al.

Summary: The present study investigated the pyrolysis characteristics and kinetics of spent coffee waste (SCW) at different heating rates using a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). The study found that different models accurately described the kinetic profiles of thermal decomposition and provided the mean activation energy of the coffee waste. The evolved gases during the decomposition primarily consisted of water, methane, and carbon dioxide.

Investigation of biomass components on the slow pyrolysis products yield using Aspen Plus for techno-economic analysis

Muhammad Shahbaz et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of biomass components on the yield of slow pyrolysis products using a validated model. The results showed that lignin had a higher char yield compared to cellulose and hemicellulose, while hemicellulose had a higher syngas yield. Furthermore, lignin pyrolysis was more cost-effective and emitted lower CO(2) compared to cellulose and hemicellulose pyrolysis. Therefore, feedstock with higher lignin content is preferred in slow pyrolysis.

Biohydrogen production from furniture waste via catalytic gasification in air over Ni-loaded Ultra-stable Y-type zeolite

Soheil Valizadeh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the air gasification of furniture waste using nickel-loaded ultra-stable Y-type zeolites to produce biohydrogen. The effects of various factors, such as SiO2/Al2O3 ratio, nickel loading, and reaction temperature, on the catalytic gasification process were examined. The results showed that a nickel loading of 5wt% on the zeolite catalyst led to higher gas yield and hydrogen concentration, as well as lower concentrations of harmful compounds. By optimizing the reaction conditions, it is possible to transform furniture waste into hydrogen-rich syngas with reduced pollution levels.

Fast hydropyrolysis of biomass Conversion: A comparative review

Shinyoung Oh et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that fast hydropyrolysis is a promising technology for converting biomass into liquid fuels, producing more aromatic hydrocarbons and reducing the oxygen content of bio-oil. Current research focuses on both non-catalytic and catalytic fast hydropyrolysis processes, as well as efforts to combine fast hydropyrolysis with hydrotreatment processes. Future research directions and challenges in fast hydropyrolysis are also discussed.
